Woodward
County
In May 1890, congress passed
the "Organic Act" that created Oklahoma Territory out of lands
west of Indian Territory and occupied by the five civilized tribes. It
was setup with seven counties (six in Oklahoma proper and one in what
is now the panhandle).
What was "N" County
is now Woodward County. On November 6, 1894, the citizens of this county
voted to change the name of "N" county to Woodward County with
Woodward as the county seat.
On November 16, 1907, Satehood
Day, Woodward County was partitioned into present day Woodward, Harper,
western part of Woods, and northern part of Ellis Counties.
