The Freedom Museum is one of the most popular places
of interest in this area. Local memorabilia is featured; however,
all items of historical nature are welcome. Hundreds of people from
throughout the U.S. and from some foreign countries are registered
here. Most acclaim it to be both interesting and unique. The museum
became a reality in 1976, after a lot had previously been deeded
the Museum Board by Simpson Walker, Sr.
Many hours of volunteer work have since been given
by dedicated persons of the community. In 1982, the Powers Family
donated funds which were used to build an East Wing to the original
building. This gift was made in memory of David and Mary Powers.
The latest addition is a machine shed, which was built a year later.
Summer hours are 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and anytime by appointment.
Present board members are: Naomi Bilyeu, chairperson; Vernon Bliss,
vice-chairperson; Pat Turner, secretary; Wesley Nixon, treasurer;
Eldon Murray, and Mildred Babcock.
