Letter To Uncle Alvin R. Paris...
It was 31 July 2002, 8:30a.m., Alvin R. Paris, that you left us for a higher sphere to be with your mom, dad, and other siblings, BUT... you have and will not been forgotten. We shall always have the memories you built, shared with your family, friends as we join together to celebrate almost 90 years of your life here on earth. You were born the 2nd oldest son of Ernest Claude & Mary Barbara (Hurt) Paris on November 01, 1912. The Ernie & Mary Hurt Paris siblings are... Leslie, Alvin, Vernon, Vada, Zella, Kenneth, Sam, Geneva and Ernie "EJ", Jr. You may have gone to be with your sisters, brothers, Mom, Dad, Grandparents on the Conover, Hurt & Paris side of the family who have departed before you, but... you still leave behind a younger brother, Sam, in Sand Point, Idaho - your wife, Naomi - three sons, daughters-in-law, ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. On February 3, 1935... you married Naomi Warren -- taking her as your bride, companion and life-partner. From 1938 thru 1948 you and Naomi produced three great sons, Stan - b. 02/25/1938; Lynn - b. 10/15/1942; and Phil - b. 06/ 09/1948. Your Hurt Family Lineage... It takes us back to your great-grandpa, John James Hurt, born 16 May 1832, in the Village of Oujezdec (today Ujezdec), Town of Kutna Hora, County, Caslav. Czech. John James Hurt died 1915 and is buried in the Old Hurt Place located 2 miles west, 1/4 mile southeast of Orion Cemetery, Major Co., OK. Your Great-grandparents... John James Hurt and Mary Markvicka, had seven children all born in the old country (Austria). They came to America 14 March 1876 and settled in Posen (Farewell), Nebraska. The John Hurt family moved to Oklahoma, others moved to Minnesota and others stayed in Nebraska. The children of John and Mary Markvicka Hurt were Anna, Mary, Joseph P. (your grandpa, your mother's father), John, Barbara Carrie, Frank James, and Anton....
That only takes us through a very small portion of the Bohemian's of the Hurt Legacy. We haven't even touched on the Dutch of the VanKouwenhoven/Conover Legacy that married into the Paris' via Henry Clay Paris and Sarah Francis Conover. I found some old photos dating back to 1953-1957, of the Ern & Mary Paris clan spending the holidays in Hopeton, Oklahoma. -- Paris Family Slideshow Alvin, you worked with the McClure Loans & Insurance Company, in Alva back in the 1930s. Lots of NW Oklahoman's around this area still remember you, your insurance agency and your community involvement in NW Oklahoma. You and Naomi Warren married in 1935 and lived for awhile in the Monfort Apartments (located in the middle of the block of Barnes Ave., southside of street, upstairs, south & next door to the Old McGill Swimming Pool, which is filled in today). It was a short time after the burning of the Castle on the Hill (March 1, 1935) that you and Naomi moved to the home at 718 4th Street. It was in 1938 that my mother (Vada) came to Alva to attend Northwestern State Teachers College on a student grant -- staying with you and Naomi until sometime shortly after your first son was born. You and your family later moved to the two-story, framed, white house on the southeast corner of Choctaw & Third Street, across the street south from the Old Armory. All I remember about that old house was that it had a spooky old basement that you would fix up during Halloween to scare us kids. That old house still stands today. My mother (Vada) wrote in her 1938 Diary for the month of February, Feb. 25, 1938 - Friday - "Alvin got home about 4 and took Naomi to the hospital at 7 o'clock. Baby was born about 12:30. Both doing nicely. I washed this afternoon. Stanley Norman Paris, born 2/25/38, weighed 7lb, 10oz, 12:30." Thanks for being my Uncle Alvin! ~~ Your Niece, Linda K. McGill Wagner ~~ |
