Vada Paris' Diary

September - 1938

(To catch you up with things. Merle has gone to New York with his mother. He doesn't get home until around the 13th or 14th September. Meanwhile, Vada is seeing other men, such as John H. (Who is John H. that is getting so serious?) and Buddy Cutter. Vada is still homesick for the folks down at Seiling and Tailholt (Chester), Oklahoma. )
1, Thursday - Date with John H. again tonight. He's getting sorta serious.

2, Friday - Date with John H. Don and Gladys were with us. We had a swell time at the "Trac."

3, Saturday - Worked pretty hard all day. John H. never did call.

4, Sunday - Alvin, Naomi and i went home today. Saw Eithel and Ray. Came home about 12 o'clock. Had a nice visit.

5, Monday - John H. left for O. U. this afternoon. Elsie and I went to the show. "The Pace That Kills." Elsie moved in this morning.

6, Tuesday - Enrolled this morning taking 11 hours. Worked all afternoon. Sorority meeting at 7 o'clock. Buddy Cutter walked home with me.

7, Wednesday - College dance at Skatemor. Had a swell time. Went with Cutter. Came back with John B. Doolin.

8, Thursday - First day of school. Write to Eithel. Sorority meeting.

9, Friday - Sorority meeting. Went to bed pretty early. Elsie and I ate dinner up at Coffman's.

10, Saturday - Got an evening dress at Jetts $9.50. Not bad looking. Black slipper satin. Margaret R., Don Warrick, Gladys and someone at the Ark.

11, Sunday - Went up to Ethels to work on Sorority Party. Date with Cutter.

12, Monday - Suppose to go with Cutter tonight. Nothing doing. [I wonder what happened here! ]

13, Tuesday - Merle got back from N.Y. We went to the show after Sorority meeting.

14, Wednesday - With Merle again tonight. Wonder if he really likes me.

15, Thursday - Gladys and I went to the Ark. Came home early to study.

16, Friday - Dancing at the Ark with Merle.

17, Saturday - Worked pretty hard today. Date with John B. Doolin. Not bad.

18, Sunday - More work on Sorority Party. Will it ever end so I can get started to studying. Date with Merle.

19, Monday - Formal party at Bell Hotel. Carnival in Sorority room. Wore my black satin dress.

20, Tuesday - Sorority meeting. Wonder what girls we'll get. Met Merle at the Ark.

21, Wednesday - Merle and I went to the Ark. Danced awhile. Came home early and studied.

22, Thursday - Date with Merle. Dance a Legion. Really had a grand time. Got home at 12:30.

23, Friday - Date with Merle. Went to football game. Rangers got beat. Dance in Gym, had a swell time.

24, Sunday - Not a very good day at the store. Merle brought me home.

25, Saturday - Elsie, Katherine and I gathered dishes and stuff for luncheon tomorrow. Merle was with Mildred Strong. I dated Don Robinson to show. [Sounds to me like Vada was a little bit pissed and was going to show Merle a thing or to here.]

26, Monday - Elsie and I studied until 12 o'clock on our gov't test either tomorrow or thursday.

27, Tuesday - Sorority meeting. Gave ribbon pledge to 9 girls. Met Merle at the Ark. Got our little quarrel settled. [Oh! So that's what was going on around the 25th. Glad you got things settled, Vada.]

28, Wednesday - Worked rather late. Wrote a card to Eithel. I'm so homesick. Wish I could go home and stay. [Sounds like things aren't going to well here, because Vada wants to run away to home and stay. Stick it out, Vada. It might get better.]

29, Thursday - My practice teaching?   What will I do next. Took a test in gov't this morning. Studied tonite.

30, Friday - Another week of school gone. Wish I could get down to work. Date with Merle.
