1938 Diary of Vada Paris
May - 1938
(Yes! I know some this month may have some double days inserted in Vada's Diary. Instead of changing what she wrote, I kept the days as she wrote them down. Vada is still seeing allot of Kenneth Wilson (whom she thinks is swell) plus some other boys. She seems busy with working, studying, socializing and is really homesick for her family in Seiling. I guess Alva, OK was big city to a small town Tailholt and Seiling girl back then.1, Sunday - Went to Mayday breakfast at the College. Went to Church. Alvin and Naomi went down home about 1:30. Terrible dusty day.
2, Monday - Sort of rainy again today. Went to work at 12:30. Got home at 6:30 but, a date with Kenneth and we didn't get home until late..
3, Tuesday - Sorority meeting. Raining again today. Took Leota home and got stuck south of the College. Came home about 9:30. Studied.
4, Wednesday - Served a banquet at the College to 23 men of the Schoolmasters Club. Date later with Ray Worthan, show "Paradise for Three." Merle and Sadie were married.
5, Thursday - Rain again today. Business wasn't so fast. Ray Worthan brought me home from work. Ethel and I went to library.
6, Friday - "Second anniversary" [Not sure what that notation in quotes and outlined in dotted lines is about.] Rain again today. I really believe Oklahoma is a wet state after all. Was pretty busy this afternoon.
7, Saturday - Went to work at 10:30. Ray and Eithel came up after me. Went home about 10 o'clock. Got there about 12. Gosh, but it was swell.
8, Sunday - What a lovely day. Eithel had a mothers day dinner at her house. I had to come back on the train. Almost missed it. Elsie and I. Oh boy! What?

Monday - Date with Bill Worthan. Saw the show, "In Old
Chicago." . Sure was good. It rained again this evening.
10, Tuesday - Sorority meeting, I was elected Chaplin in Eleanor's place. We all went to the Senior play. Kenneth Wilson and "Zelma Fisher".
11, Wednesday - Supposed to date Bill Worthan tonite. Kenneth and I went on League picnic out to the park. Had a swell time.
12, Thursday - Have I ever got a lot of studying to do. Sorority Lawn party at Mrs. Ames. Had a nice time. Went to the show later.
13, Wednesday [Friday] - [Excuse the two Wednesday and Thursdays from the 11th to 14th. That's the way Vada wrote it in her Diary.] Stayed at home and studied tonite. Raining again. Went to the library so I wouldn't be here if the telephone rang. [Makes you wonder who was calling that she didn't want to speak to. Then maybe she just had so much studying to do and couldn't get anything done with all her friends calling her.]
14, Thursday [Saturday]- Studied at the library again tonite until 9 o'clock. Date with Bill Worthan afterwards. Got a letter from Eithel.
15, Friday [Sunday]- College May Day Carnival. Date with Kenneth, we had a swell time. Won a cake, and got to eat it at "Rainbow Inn". "qt. milk."
16, Saturday [Monday] - To work at 11:00 o'clock. Went to the Library pretty early. Pretty nice day. Really sold the hose. Wrote to Eithel.
17, Sunday [Tuesday] - Picnic at Enid or Hellums Lake. All went over in a truck. Got back about 5:30. Plenty tired. Tried to skate again. No go.
18, Monday [Wednesday] - Mr. and Mrs. Brady anniversary. Plenty stiff and sore. Took a hot "check" ($12) Saturday. Mr. Warrick is in the air. What'll happen now. Plenty worried.
19, Tuesday [Thursday] - Sorority party at Mrs. Ames. I made the tea. Went to the show later with Elvest Lace [not sure of the spelling of last name. Couldn't read Vada's script.]. Saw "Test Pilot". [released April 22, 1938]
20, Wednesday [Friday] - Studying tonight. Gee, but I've lots of work to do. Think I'll move next week.
21, Thursday [Saturday] - Eithel, May 21, 1924. Was going to send Eithel some hose. Forgot it. Was called from school to identify the person who gave me the check.
22, Friday [Sunday] - Merle, May 22, 1914. Sunday Zella and Willard came down. Damn the people who keep calling me on the telephone. Don't they know I have something else to do. [So that answers that question of Why Vada wanted to get away from the telephone.]
23, Saturday [Monday] - To work at 10:30. Guess I'll move Sunday. Date with John Purier to the show. Monday - Date with Ray W. [Okay! Here goes another time Vada jumped days in her Diary. I'm typing this the way Vada put it in her Diary. So bare with me here. I've put the corrected Day in Brackets.]
24, Tuesday - Sorority meeting. The last one of the term. Went home pretty early. Got so darn much studying to do.
25, Wednesday - Date with Kenneth. Rode around. Took one exam today. Went to Commencement exercises this morning. Kenneth Graduated. Eithel and Ray's Anniversary, May 25, 1926.
26, Thursday - Ray, May 26, 1900. Last exam this PM. Really glad that I'm through. Don't think I'll go to Summer School. Too much work.
27, Friday - Packed all my clothes this morning. Getting ready to move. Didn't have any exams this today.
28, Saturday - Really had a slow day. Not many people in town. Hope I can go home in the morning.
29, Sunday - So grand to be here this morning. Came home with Mr. and Mrs. Edwards this morning. Ray, Ylova Jean and Kenneth met me at Seiling.
30, Monday - Gee, but its grand here. Wish I didn't have to go back in the morning. Eithel and Ylova Jean went over to cemetery. Ken, Ray and I stayed at home. I made a cake.
