July - 1938

(This month Vada meets Gene (Merle)! Vada meets him on the 9th and by the third date on the 15th she has come to the realization that she has fallen for someone. )
1, Friday - I really have the school work to do. Hope I can get some of it done this vacation.

2, Saturday - Worked pretty hard today. Got through about 10:30. Maxine and I went to the Preview. "Gold Diggers In Paris." Not a very good show.

3, Sunday - Got up about 10 o'clock. Sewed all morning. Mrs. Faulkner went out to the farm. What a time here at the house. More fun. Sunrise dance. Get home at 6 o'clock in the morning.

4, Monday - The Fourth again. Wish I could have gone home. Had to work. Went to the dance with Willard Alexander from Amorita. "What a date!"

5, Tuesday - So sleepy today that I cut sewing class and came home and slept from 10 to 12. Jo and I played tennis tonite.

6, Wednesday - Really got in a day of work. So tired and sleepy. Wish I could hear from Eithel. Went to bed pretty early.

7, Thursday - Jo and I played tennis again tonight. Registered to vote in primary election. Faye and Lloyd took me up to.....

8, Friday - Another week of school gone. Wish I could go home tonight and not have to come back until Tuesday.

9, Saturday - Went to work pretty early. Gene McGill called wanting a date. Guess I'll go. We had a nice evening just playing around.

10, Sunday - Slept practically all day. Did a little studying. Date with Lester Gallon. Went to the show. Wanda and I went to Matinee.

11, Monday - Went to bed early. No School today or tomorrow because of election. Faye slept with me tonight. Kenneth called.

12, Tuesday - Date with Gene McGill again tonight. Another pleasant evening. Oh Yes. I voted today on Demo. Ticket. [Republic is scratched out and Demo. written in.]

13, Wednesday - Kenneth called again tonight wanting me to go to the band concert. Can't go, in fact don't want to go. Elsie is here visiting.

14, Thursday - Went to bed early tonight plenty tired and sleepy. Got a letter from Eithel. Worked pretty hard at the store.

15, Friday - Gene came in about 8 o'clock went riding. Oh boy! What fun. I'm afraid I've fallen for someone. [NOTE written by Linda: 54 years later (15 July 1992) Vada dies and meets Gene on other side of Life. Gene Died June, 1986.]

16, Saturday - Worked pretty hard today. Gene and I went to the dance later. Had a swell time. Rained a little.

17, Sunday - Slept greatest part of the day. Wanda came down. Spent the evening. I dated John Wenzel. Went to Cherokee. Oh boy!

18, Monday - Date with the dentist. Have to have about $30 worth of work done on my teeth. Was to tired. Waited until next week.

19, Tuesday - Studied until 9:30. Date with John Wenzel. Had a very pleasant evening. Got home about 12 o'clock. Rained this afternoon.

20, Wednesday - Boy oh Boy! Am I tired today. Got home from work about 6:30. Took a bath. Went to bed. Slept until 9:30. Date with Gene. Gee! But he's swell!

21, Thursday - Mrs. Hale and I went round and round. She makes me so mad. Eithel, Ray, Helen and Gene were here. Going to Anthony. Date with John W.

22, Friday - Went to bed pretty early. Gene called about 9 o'clock must be checking on me. "Oh yeah." Just the same he's tops with me.

23, Saturday - Not so much business today. Date with Merle. We went to the dance. Later out to the ranch to help Jim get started to work.

24, Sunday - Wanda came down. We went to the show. "Three Comrades." Really a good show. Merle called this evening.

25, Monday - Examinations this week. Merle called. We went to the show.

26, Tuesday - Date with John W. Rode around. Came home early. Have lots of sewing to do.

27, Wednesday - Started my exams this morning. Sewed all afternoon until 9 o'clock. Wonder if I'll ever get through.

28, Thursday - Got myself in a jam. Two dates on the same night with John and Merle. Was I ever in hot water. Finally went with Merle.

29, Friday - Maxine and Albert, Jo and Chas, Merle and I went to Hatfields and a picnic. Had a swell time. Maxine and I had a fuss after we got home.

30, Saturday - Worked Pretty hard. Tired. Came home and went to bed. Maxine went home today.

31, Sunday - Slept and rested until evening. Merle came up for a while. He had another date. So I dated John W. "really walked me."
