Vada Paris' Diary

February - 1938

(So far I've learned that Vada is living with her brother, Alvin, and his wife. She is doing heavy duty housekeeping to put herself through school. Vada seems at times to be homesick for her family in Seiling, OK. She speaks allot about them. She also speaks allot about her Sorority she belongs to and the mentions the movies that she sees. If anyone out there knows anything about the Ark and Ark#2 in Alva, Oklahoma in and around 1938, I would appreciate some feedback. Thanks! Read on for MORE insight into Vada.)
1, Tuesday - Sorority meeting. Leota, Vivian, Elsie, Katherine Wiebener, Erl Lene and I really had a time after meeting. At the Ark #2. What next.

2, Wednesday - Had my picture made for the annual. Home Ec. meeting. Had the formal rush party for rushees. Another lovely time in sorority room.

3, Thursday - Have been having grand weather last two days. Sorority picture made at noon today. Naomi and Alvin have gone to choir practice. Alvin and Naomi's wedding anniversary, 3 February 1935.

4, Friday - Big game tonight. Home Ec. Club had their pictures made at 12:30. Rather dusty and windy. Rangers won. Durward Borden brought me home.

5, Saturday - Another BB game tonite. Rangers and Bison - another victory. Elsie and Virgil McDaniels, Durward and I played games and eat popcorn here at house.

6, Sunday - Loverly day. Studied all afternoon. Wrote to Eithel. Geneva's birthday.

7, Monday - Ironed all afternoon. Elsie and I went someplace. Forgotten where ???????????

8, Tuesday - Ironed a while. Worked down at the church on Valentine Party. Went to Sorority. Elsie and I came home early. Someone called. [Who called, Vada?]

9, Wednesday - Going home with Pauline Whitehead. Were we crowded, 6 suitcases and 4 girls in back seat. It's good to get back to civilization. (meaning?)

10, Thursday - Rather cold - Kenneth Ray has a cold. Went on steak fry with Rip. What a mess. Just as soon not go any more.

11, Friday - Ray and Eithel, Mr. Brady and kids and I went to Woodward to see about NYA. Eithel got a new GE iron. Leora Hedrick is in Woodward hospital. [Leora Hedrick is Vada's Cousin]

12, Saturday - Windy and nasty today. Eithel, Ken, and I went to town. Y'lona Jean had the croup last nite and sick all day. Poor child.

13, Sunday - Saw Mrs. Jaquith. I'll tough it out where I am before borrowing money. Grand of her to offer to help. Came back to Alva with Henry Sanders.

14, Monday - Talked with Miss Shakley. Thinks I can work on NYA. George came down and played "500" with us.

15, Tuesday - Got a letter from Mrs. J. Sorority meeting. Buffet luncheon. Two new ribbon pledges. Barbara Hedges and Maxine Brown. Naomi had play party.

16, Wednesday - Letter from Eithel. Talked with Meigs girls about light housekeeping. Columbia Concert tonite in Auditorium at 8 o'clock. Too windy to go.

17, Thursday - Not so nice today either. Windy and rainy. Was sick this morning. Missed 3 classes. Went downtown this evening with Naomi.

18, Friday - Snowed all day and part of the night. About 10 inches on level. Drifted terribly. Ranger vs East Central - got beat. I didn't go.

19, Saturday - Sun shining this morning. Most snow we've had at one time since 1928 or 1929. Had my hair set and dried and intend to go to the baskerball game tonite. Elsie and I went to the show (Varsity Show) with a couple of guys.

20, Sunday - Ruth and Dale were here for dinner. Velma Paris (Vada's cousin) and I went to the show at the Ritz, "Damsel In Distress". Date with Darr Simms. Saw "Human Hearts". Bobbie Hume Brady's birthday, 1927.

21, Monday - Snowed again today totaling about 12 inches all together. Studied all evening. Talked to Elsie on telephone.

22, Tuesday - Sun is shining today. Sent a letter to Zella and Eithel. Sorority party at Mrs. Ames. Had a grand time. Estella came over to see Alvin and Naomi.

23, Wednesday - Sun shining again today lovely day. Have a terrible headache. Have had it all week. Naomi and Alvin went to the show.

24, Thursday - Sunshine, but still lots of snow on the ground. Took two tests today. Home mgt. and Rural Ed. Still have headache. Didn't get any sleep all night.

25, Friday - Alvin got home about 4 and took Naomi to the hospital at 7 o'clock. Baby was born about 12:30. Both doing nicely. I washed this afternoon. Stanley Norman Paris, born 2/25/38, weighed 7lb, 10oz, 12:30. [Stan is one of my Paris cousins. The oldest son of Alvin and Naomi.]

26, Saturday - Ironed all morning. Went up to the hospital at noon. Came home about 3 and Finished my ironing. Cleaned house. Plenty tired.

27, Sunday - Elsie and I went to the show, . Rangers got beat last nite 45 to 31. Alvin and I went up to the hospital early this morning then again at noon. They're getting along nicely.

28, Monday - Back to school. More work when will it ever end. Simms called wanting a date. Didn't go. Has studying to do. Card from Ray.
