Uncle Bob's Legacy

Bob's Journey to Europe

(As told by Robert McGill through his June - August 1938 Diary.)

Munich

Friday, July 29 1938

Arrived in Munich at nine o'clock tonight.  Went to Rossen Strasse No 7, and found that the boys were right about the place.  60 cents for 1/2 Pension.

Cleaned up and went to Hoff Brau House.  Its the darndest place I ever saw.   Met 3 girls from Stephens and really had a time.  Got home at 7 o'clock in the morning - The girls payed for more than we did.  Regina - Feagan, Nancy & Ditto - They're typical Stephens girls - and They knew all my friends - In Columbia.

Saturday, July 30, 1938

Slept late.  Went down town and met a couple of Texas girls who we went to the Casino with in Lucerne.  We went back to the Haff Brau House with them that night, we found a good place to eat around the corner from where we stay.

I bought a kodak for 85 R.M.  it's really a fine one, would cost about $50 at home.  Munich is really a beautiful city and there is plenty to see here besides the people.

Sunday, July 31, 1938

Not much to do on sunday.  We spent the day, walking around Munich.  To night we went to the Regina Club and sat around watching people dance.  There were some American Girsl there.  I dance one dance and then we all came home pretty early.

I had to sleep on the couch for the third night in a row - bought some leather pants for 28 R.M.

Monday, August 1, 1938

So for today, I have bought range finder for 10 marks - I have about spent my wad in this place.  I now possess $170 and have bought much more than I expected too.

I shall try to finish trip for $70 in Europe, but I may see England.  If so, it will cost more.  I plan to stay at room and write letters and pack tonight.   Spent the day in Museum (Deutsches) the best in the world.  I really believe it is.

Leaving for Hiedelburg at 8:46.

1.) The Americans with all the German pins.
2.)  The joke - Never had one in my mouth untill 21.  At Doctors Convention.
3.)  Black sheep among white.
4.)  Man in Bar Room

Sayings of fellows:
Huddelston - Lets move to some cheaper place!
Greer - It don't make no difference one way or tother.

Aug 5 - Gibbens had his first bath today since New York.
