Uncle Bob's Legacy
Bob's Journey to Europe
(As told by Robert McGill through his June - August
1938 Diary.)
Bern, Switzerland
Tuesday, July 26, 1938
Have spent one day in Bern, Switzerland. It is very beautiful.
Saw the Pacar Pit of Bern. Went on a tour for 4 Franks.
Stayed at the hershen for one day and night - The best food I ever ate.
5 meals and good soft heil for 12 Franks ($3.00).
I think I will come back too Bern some day and live for awhile.
It is cheap and a beautiful city. We saw it from all the points
of vantage.
Got in Lucerne today at 3:30. Met Greer, Hud, PB staying at a
Ritzey Hotel.
Wednesday, July 27, 1938
Lucerne for a half a day. It is too expensive to stay here very
long but a beautiful place. We went swimming and had quite a good
time at Lido. We met Arkansas again and she got us dates with
3 Texas girls on a tour. We went to the Casino and danced.
That was the first time I had danced since the boat trip. I really
had lots of fun. The orchestra from Brussels, Belgium and they
were really good. On to Zurich.
Thursday, July 28, 1938
Stayed in Zurich for one night. Left the next day - (today).
Not much to see here - we were in our room and a couple of English boys
came in and talked awhile from what I have seen of English, I don't
think much of them. They'rre sort of silly and really look weak
and anemic.
No Swiss town compares to Bern in beauty or as being a cheap place
to live.
