Osage Nation (Osage county), Indian Territory (Oklahoma)
[excerpt concerning the Osages, Osage
County as written by Paul McGuire.]
"When the reservation was allotted to individual Osages,
many did not choose to live on the prairies, and the land was leased to
large operators who put together many large ranches, which have been held
together by purchase and lease since that time.
Many of the large ranches were: Chapman-Barnard;
Mullendore Ranches; the Drummond family; Kennedys, Haddens, Moodys, Stuarts,
Boots Adams and other. Many have been handed down and there were father-son
operations such as Phil Reed and Phillip; George McKinley and Jim; Ben
Culver and Bill Joe; Billy Friend and Mike; R. C. Drummond and Fred, Jack
and Gent; F. G. Drummond and Frederick; C. C. Craddock and Fred; Thad
Holcombe and Lee; George W. Smith, and Wayland and J. B.; George B. Smith
and Sol; J. D. Harrison and Berry and J. D.; Ed Hall and Chuck; Tom Rickard
and Jack; Smith Perryman and Charlie; Ed Labadie and Rick and Dude; Hobart
Elliott and Bill; C. H. Codding and Charles and Don; Luther Alred Ruth
(daughter); N. T. Olsen, Jim and Bill; Emmet Smith and Emmett,
Jr.; Arthur Jacques, Arthur Jr., and Jim; Ralph Varton, Royal and Jay;

These men, and others will carry on the traditons of integrity
and good management of the Osage grasslands for years to come."
