Man who invented 'Okie' dies in California
"This is too late maybe for the Okie Thread, but until I became acquainted with Richard Reddick, I had no clue this is why we are called Okies. Richard is also a list owner to the Daly site. Ben Reddick who coined the Okie title is the father of Richard Reddick a great friend of mine. Richard also was the editor of the Paso Robles Daily Press, the same paper his dad owned. Speaking of Old Photos
We Have a few we would like to share with you this week. AND... You can also see them in our OkieLegacy Photo Gallery. Many of you know that our father, Gene McGill, would venture coyote hunting in his airplane with friends. Sketches of John Jacob & Mary Jane (VANCE) WARWICK
We heard from a lady in California whose family has had two framed Sketches of John Jacob WARWICK and Mary Jane VANCE WARWICK that her husband's father had picked up at an auction. It has been hanging on their wall for 40 years or so and they are looking for some WARWICK family to sell it to. We went back through our WARWICK family and found that Jacob & Mary (VANCE) WARWICK would have been our 6th Great Uncle & Aunt on our grandmother's WARWICK side of the family.

Remembering Those Great Old Burma Shave Road Signs
"For those who never saw the Burma Shave signs, here is a quick lesson in our history of the 1930's and 1940's. Before the interstates, when everyone drove the old 2 lane roads, Burma Shave signs would be posted all over the countryside in farmers' fields. They were small red signs with white letters. Five signs, about 100 feet apart, each containing 1-line of a 4-line couplet... and the obligatory 5th sign advertising Burma Shave, a popular shaving cream. Here are more of the actual signs:
