Bayfield, Colorado - Hey! Hope you had a great Easter weekend? NW Okie just ran across this old Easter photo of two little girls at their grandma's house in Alva, Oklahoma around 1945. They posed with their mother, Vada Eileen Paris McGill in their easter bonnets. Dorthy, on the left, must have been about a year old or around that age.
Remember this little ditty with the chorus that goes something like this:
"In your Easter bonnet, with all the frills upon it
"You'll be the grandest lady in the Easter parade
"I'll be all in clover and when they look you over
"I'll be the proudest fellow in the Easter parade."

Highland county, Virginia - As to this week's look back at Highland County, Virginia schoolhouse, that is unknown. But the earliest teacher of whom we know about was William Steuart. Steuart taught regularly from the time of his arrival about 1755, and appeared to have been well educated, especially in mathematics.

America - The Bisbee Daily Review, dated Tuesday morning, 9 April 1912, in Bisbee, Arizona had this headline in the news, "Votes For Women But Power To Legislate Not Included In Measure passed By House." With Suffrage is combined liability for military duty making Arizona Women the real Militant Suffragette. Lynch pays his respects to worshippers of the constitution who fail to show the progressive spirit in their acts. Graham scores points against the bill.

America - Remembering the Butterfield Overland Trail, the longest stagecoach route from Tipton, Missouri to San Francisco, California of yesterday. The route took passengers and mail from Tipton, Missouri through Arkansas and then turning west to end in San Francisco.

Bayfield, Colorado - We had a few interesting emails this week concerning the "Old Sam Lindsay" home place south of Monterey, Virginia. We did found out that the 77.9 acre someplace and old house are "For Sale!" It is a three bedroom a bath home that sets next to the highway 220, south of Monterey, Virginia.

Austin, Texas - In the 15 September 1906, of The Jimplecute, of Jefferson, Texas had this mention of the South Texas Baseball League and the Austin Champions. The South Texas Baseball League gave Austin the Pennant.
