PBS- Texas Ranch House...

PBS had a new miniseries starting this week in which a group of present-day people spend a period of time on a Texas ranch with no more amenities than they would have had in 1867. I wanted to bring the program to your attention because quite a few of us have ancestors who came to Indian Territory via Texas. They endured the rigors of the frontier after fleeing the turbulence of the Reconstruction South. Program times may vary - check your local listings. Texas Ranch House

I am interested to here from Okie or her siblings that used to live on a ranch house. How were the 'hired hands' treated and what role were her sisters and mothers allowed to have in NW Oklahoma. Can this be part of next weeks newsletter?

I did admire the loyalty of the crew and their dedication to the ranch and the project. If it wasn't the only ranch in the area, I have to admit I would not have stayed as long as they did.  ~Mwags 2006-05-07 00:54:57
I also watche the Texas Ranch House series and even Tivo it so I could watch it again and again. I did not give the Cooke family a very high grade, though. They wouldn't have latest through the next roundup and cattle drive. Too hard on hired hands. VERY INTERESTING series, though. Hope they have another one like that. ~NW Okie 2006-05-06 19:44:21
My husband and I watched all of that series and we found it very interesting. Makes us appreciate what we have today. Marty Myers ~Marty Myers 2006-05-06 19:29:32
