NW Okie On the Road
This weekend the Pugs find themselves cozy by the the fire in the fireplace while southwest Colorado saw some April Winter weather dumping snow and rain... starting on Thursday.
NW Okie has gone on the road again through New Mexico, Texas and Oklahoma. We are running a tad late this weekend, because NW Okie is helping friends at the Shawnee, Oklahoma Horse Expo Center as they sell some of their Quarter horses. This weekend Issue may be published Sunday evening instead of Saturday. Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Friday the 13th Weather
Well! Did you survive the strange weather that befell Oklahoma on Friday the 13th?
While there were storm warnings in the southern half of the state, the northern parts were experiencing blowing snows. We hear that Alva, in the northwest parts received an inch of snow, but it melted fast.
Thank goodness I left southwest Colorado on Wednesday and missed traveling across New Mexico and Texas on Friday's storms. That doesn't mean that I didn't experience some of it. Actually, some might say that this NW Okie brought the cool, snow behind her. AND... Saturday it really poured down rain on Saturday in Shawnee, Oklahoma while we spent the whole day at the Horse Expo Center. It was Good Luck on Saturday when this NW Okie got to meet one of our OkieLegacy Subscribers. Thanks, Jan, for stopping by Clark's horses at Shawnee, OK.
For the next few days I will be browsing through the newspaper microfilm archives at the Oklahoma History Center. If anyone out there has something they want looked up, let me know. Just give me an approximately date, place and incident you are looking.
Recently someone asked me to jot down 20 things that gives you energy to do the things you do. I have never really thought about it, but only just keeping on doing what I do. Are you a high energy person using certain things to create energy to accomplish what you do? Can you list up to 20 things that give you energy?

Route 66 & Elk City, OK
On my way to Oklahoma I took the southern route through Tucumcari, Route 66 to I40 and towards Elk City, Oklahoma where you can find the "Route 66 Museum."
have driven by Elk City, Oklahoma several times between here and there saying, "Some day I'm going to check this Route 66 Museum out." So... this time I did stop and got some digital movies and stills of Elk City's historical museum.
Before we head out of here and retire for this late Sunday night in OKC, has anyone ever heard of (or about) Alva, Oklahoma's Cigar Factory of 1915? A lady sent the Waynoka Historical Society an inquiry concerning the cigar factory in Alva during 1915 where her grandfather and great-grandfather worked while living in Alva. If you have any information, we would love to hear from you. Thanks for everything... especially your patience and understanding while this NW Okie takes to the road!

Alva Cigar Factory
"Linda, the Waynoka Historical Society received the following inquiry. Perhaps your readers can help. Was there a cigar factory in Alva, Oklahoma around 1915? The names I have are Harry William Brown, my grandfather, and Joseph Peter Brown, my great grandfather. They may have worked at the factory in some capacity while living in Alva. Thanks for your help. Contact Jan Griffin - Email: jgriffin@springnet1.com, Clinton, IL
We've had snow and rain - really needed the moisture. I thought the snake hunt would be ruined for those who planned it and those who came, but it may have been the biggest crowd ever yesterday when the weather was nicer." -- Sandie

Southern Oklahoma Weather & Birds
We are in the process of taking down Kenneth Updike's stories and ramblings of "Growing Up In Oklahoma" because Kenneth asked us, "To remove all of my previous writings to you about my Ramblins. Personal stories that I told you and your readers. My Son has had all of my writings, and notes copyrighted so that we can put them in a book or booklet. His idea. I really have no objections to this, but he insists we can be viewed by more people. I leave it up to him. Thanks for your help in the past, and I still read your Okie Legacy nearly every week."
If you find some of Kenneth's Ramblings that I have missed, Please email me the link with Vol. and Iss. numbers so that this NW Okie can remove them. Thanks for your help!

Magill's of County Antrim
"I have a little information on the Magills of County Antrim, but not much. My line runs like this:
John Magill (fought with William of Orange); Arthur Magill; John Magill, a lawyer, who emigrated to Virginia; Charles Magill; Charles Thruston Magill; Mary Eveline Magill married Adam Nason.
The Winchester Magill's became related by marriage to the Grahams of the same town, and the later were Presbyterians. One of them, James A. Graham was a Presbyterian minister, and he wrote a small booklet on the history of the Magills of Winchester in the early 1900s. A copy of this was sent by Mary Eveline Magill NASON to her son, Charles Wilbur NASON who emigrated to NZ in 1899." -- Keith NZ - Email: genmail@ihug.co.nz

April Snowflakes Blows In Oklahoma... "Will you be attending the NWOSU Spring Reunion on 28th? If so, might see you there." -- Jim Bradley
Fender Skirts - What's That?... "I'm of that "certain age" and I remembered all those old classic words. Those were the days. I miss them sometimes but life goes on and new words come along to expand our brains. LOL. It was a great piece and fun walking down memory lane. Thanks."
Easter Snow In Oklahoma?... "Up here in the Cleveland area we have been having snow for the past week or so off and on. More so on. 8" on my deck today and about 1-4 due in this evening. What a way to spend an Easter. Hope am able to dig myself out and have a great Easter with family and friends. Gas here is anywhere from $2.59 to $2.89 for regular. I guess there''s gold in them there tanks. Keep smiling all, it could be worse. HAPPY EASTER everyone !!!"
Love Valentine Diners?... "This Valentine unit was moved in to Cherokee brand new and was owned by Meno and Mildred Harms. It was located next to the Plains Motel they owned. They ran the Motel and the "Dairy King" which it was called down through the years. The unit was moved to the place where it sets now by the Salt Fork river at the Great Salt Plains Lake. The new ACB bank is located near where the Dairy King use to set. Part of the Plains motel has been preserved for future use." -- Marty Myers
