Seasons are making their changes upnorth in southwest Colorado. If you take a drive down Buck highway, South of Bayfield (Colorado), you can see the changes in the tops of the trees as Fall sheds some golden light on nature.
This Saturday morning when we awoke to weekend chores and chilly temperatures. Looking North, West towards the higher mountain peaks you could see the fresh fallen snow from the day before highlighting the peaks. AND... the horses coats have been thickening for the colder seasons to come.
The freeze is on the way. We are being told that a hard freeze is predicted for this weekend. That means the garbage bags will be coming out to cover plants that haven't been put into the greenhouse. Also, means getting to light the fireplace... maybe! Fall, Football, Fairs & Festivals! We just love this time of year.
Northwestern's (NWOSU) Homecoming should be coming soon. Does anyone out there know the date of NWOSU's Homecoming?

Big Buck Raids Farmer's Garden
In the southwest Colorado Valley, South of Bayfield and East of Ignacio, a Big Buck in the velvet came to visit our neighbors garden this Saturday afternoon, September 16, 2006.
Look close at the photo on the left and you can see the Big Buck's head and antlers peeking over the edge of the back patio. Our Neighbor also caught a shot of that same Big Buck leaving the scene of the crime (on the right).
According to Ann, "The reason we know the buck was there was because we saw him walk right thru the front yard, (the only way to get in) but he was after the apples... After the picture, he walked thru the raised tomato beds and made a flying leap just like Rudolf and jumped over the HIGH gates to the south."

Early Days (ca. 1947) NW Oklahoma Children... "I think I know 2 names. The first name would be the one standing beside Connie (on left). If I am right her name is Linda Faulkner (her parents had the laundry mat). She was in Connie's class in school but she would have only been 4 going on 5 that next October. The one standing next to her (the blond) would be Monet Monfort. I am of course checking with my mom and as soon as I here from her I will let you know." -- Teresa Garner Hill - EMAIL: Aubreyandiansgma@aol.com
Woodford, Oklahoma Still Standing... "I would love to hear anything at all about the area my grandparents lived before they passed, as my precious memories of them reside there. Farry, OK Descendants... "Evelyn Reed, Welcome back to the fold. I grew up in the Farry Community, in fact I remember of Floyd working for my dad A.C.Melkus. WE did not have the modern conveniences that people have today, so Flody would have to take a bath in the livestock tank, anyway he always left a plug of chewing tobacco, on the cement platform of the Windmill. Me, Francis Melkus, being a curious boy tried the plug of chewing tobacco. You can imagine what happened, at least I never tried it again, and never told my folks of the experience. Floyd''s sister Wanda (Reed) Melkus was my aunt. Francis R. Melkus of Amarillo, Texas." -- Francis R. Melkus - EMAIL: fmmel@sbcglobal.net

Oklahoma Gas Prices
"Perry, Oklahoma's major gas stations dropped THEIR unleaded regular prices to $2.29.9 today (Saturday, Sept. 9th.) and our annual Noble County Fair began today (it runs through next Friday, Sept. 15th. at 2 PM). Then our Cherokee Strip Celebration of the Land Run of 1893 will be held on Saturday the 16th. That's an all day celebration (from 8 AM 'til after midnight) with the big parade that starts at 10 AM, and ending with the street dance at the Noble County Courthouse Park beginning at 8 PM.
Yesterday's prices (Thursday, 9/15) dropped again here in Perry, Oklahoma. All the major stations (other than Sinclair) dropped to $2.169 for regular unleaded and I was told that there were some posted prices at $1.99 in another city. Can they go lower? I hope so. The wind has picked up again (strong gusts from the south) and there are lots of clouds coming in. It might rain on our parade tomorrow. We'll just have to wait and see. It wouldn't be the first time." -- Roy
