OkieLegacy Goes To The Dogs...
This Time Last Year In the Rockies...
This time last year we had 3 to 4 inches of snow here south of Bayfield, Colorado while the San Juan Mountains north of here had from 15 or 16 inches. This is an exerpt of our November 27, 2004, Vol. VI, Iss. 47 and Duchess' SW Corner... "Last weekend was our first really big snow here in the valley below the San Juan Mountains in Southwest Colorado. While we were getting approximately 3 to 4 inches in the valley, the higher elevations were getting a steady stream of snow that ended up measuring around 15 to 16 inches of that white fluffy stuff. Boy! It can sure make these majestic mountains and lakes glimmer in the full moonlight at night. This photo was taken 20th of November 2004 at our place in the valley. AND... This weekend they promised us another big snowstorm on the way. Oakie loves the snow in the mountains, but this Pug writer does a little tip-toe dance through the morning snow to take care of business. After that... Everything is just hunky-dorey... as they would say!" One part of the house was said to have been moved to Goltry from Karoma by Mr Hyck. It had been the Congregational Church building at Karoma. My father, Albert Bradley, ran the F. J. Gentry Lumber Yard there in Goltry. My grandfather, Charley Bradley, farmed three miles east of the NW corner of Goltry, on land he purchased from Seward Mutersbaugh. I graduated Goltry High School in 1954, and NWOSU in 1959." -- Jim Bradley - jbrad723@bluevalley.net View/Write Comments (count 0) | Receive updates (0 subscribers) | Unsubscribe Caught Off Guard..."I was totally surprised when you referred to yourself as an 'aging' NW Okie! And then you mentioned hunting berries in the mid-1950s. From the photo posted in your newsletter, I had presumed that you might be in your mid-40s at the most. I don't think of myself as old yet but had presumed that I was at least old enough to be your father (my oldest son has turned 40 this year). Now I'm totally confused (and no! I never ask a lady her age, and am even afraid to guess anymore! I think I'd better quit typing this right now before I get myself in BIG trouble. Stay young! I certainly intend to (as long as possible)." I wasn't able to find any information about the editor of this side. I found it very interesting and would like to use it as a source, but therefore I need more information about the editor. Also, if anybody has authentic material about staff, oral history or something like that, I would be very happy if you would share it with me. My goal is to portray the life of German POWs as realistic as possible. Thanks." -- a. buerkle - Email: twinky0312@yahoo.de View/Write Comments (count 0) | Receive updates (0 subscribers) | Unsubscribe Gas Prices In Waynoka, OK..."Linda, Gas is $1.99 in Waynoka today, 11/26/05." -- Sandie View/Write Comments (count 1) | Receive updates (0 subscribers) | Unsubscribe Gas Prices In Perry, OK..."Even though the prices went back up to $1.99.9 Wednesday here in Perry, Oklahoma, they dropped back to $1.97.9 Friday and I just checked again (at 4:30 PM Saturday) and they're still at the $1.97.9 price, same as they were a week ago. It's my understanding that there are 2 stations in Oklahoma City that are about 10 cents cheaper than that." -- Roy View/Write Comments (count 1) | Receive updates (0 subscribers) | Unsubscribe OkieLegacy Connects With The Prairie Connection...
"Oh! Thank you, Linda... That will be a great addition to our December Issue. Wow! What an enterprise! What you have done is so exciting and amazing! How do you have time to do it all, and how do you fund it all? What a gift to the
prairies! If any of your people would like to send their stories for possible publication in the Prairie Connection, we'd be delighted! We are nonprofit (501(c)(3) and can't pay anything... I don't get paid either -- volunteer almost 2000 hours a year. But they will know they are sharing something precious." -- Rosalea
