Josie Irma (or Irene) James was the wife of Renfrew Irving de Geer. They were married in 1900 in Farry, Woods Co. There is no record of children, and it is doubtful they would have had a young child in 1944.

Just FYI - There must be a link error with this link: www.rootsweb.com/~kscomanc/links.htm. When I used that particular link, it gave me an error message. When I used the other link in the message, I went right to the site.

On the Road Again...

Boy! Does that Oakie keep this Pug busy. Last Tuesday morning we were packing in SW Colorado for a road trip south -- all the way down to Odessa, Texas for a visit with Oakie's oldest son. We traveled over 707 miles from Ignacio, Colorado down hwy 550 to I25 and into Albuquerque by dinner time. We spent the night south of Albuquerque in a small community along I25 -- getting up Wednesday morning to head down towards Ruidoso, Trinity Site, Roswell, Artesia (New Mexico) in 60 degree weather most of the way. We made Odessa, Texas around 8pm Wednesday night. We sure did miss the cool, snowy weather of SW Colorado, though. BUT... we had a great visit with "The Family."

Anyone Remember or heard stories that date back to the morning of July 16, 1945, 5:29 a.m. when the U.S. Army experimented with an Atomic blast that turned 500-yard diameter circle of desert into a quarter inch thick plate of radioactive crystals the color of most 1970s major applicances. Today (I read) that it is mildly radioactive and open to the public for one day, twice a year... April, first Saturday & October, first Saturday. You travel about an hour and a half south of Albuquerque, to the Trinity Site where it is isolated in the northern section of White Sands Missile Range. The landscape around and south of Albuquerque looks like it had already been subjected to mass nuclear detonation. It has a dull, mustard-colored, scrub-desert dotted with clumps of tough grass and creosote bush and saphhire blue skies.

We read where this Trinitite has become collector items among many who have ventured on the site. This Trinitite is approximately a half-inch square and a quarter-inch thick, a shiny avocado green - except for thein layers of and on the bottom.

AND... We did NOT get abducted by aliens from outer space as we made our way through Roswell, New Mexico. We have stuck some web links concerning Trinity Site and Roswell in the Mailbag Corner.

Has anyone out there ever heard of a Huskey at Northwestern College during the period between 1939-1943? We have an inquiry in our Mailbag Corner below where someone is looking for records of students from 1939 to 1943 trying to find a given name for a HUSKEY who attended there and got his Medic training there prior to WWII. Can anyone out there have any ideas or information concerning the records and given name of this HUSKEY at Northwestern during that time?

We are going to bid you a Good-night from Clovis, New Mexico as we wind down here. As we are still "On the Road Again" -- heading back to Colorado and spending windshield time ... most of the time, this week's newsletter is short and minus a few photo shots. BUT... the GOOD NEWS is... we have finally scanned the entire 1938 Ranger album, except for the ADs at the back of the yearbook. Alva Adoption of 1965...

In the mailbag corner below there is also a lady who is searching for her husband's biological parents. In August 19, 1965 at the Alva Hospital a Baby Boy Gates was born and put up for adoption. The lady's husband had always been told for years that his biological dad got killed, in a car accident in 1965. They do NOT want to interferre in anyone's lives, but would just like to find out more about the baby boy Gates that was put up for adoption. Can anyone help them? Another Shooting In 1941 - Alva...

Does anyone out there know of anyone who might be able to shed some light on what became of Kenneth Root (17 years of age in 1941)?

Kenneth shot a Donald Benson (22 or 23 years of age in 1941). I am assuming that this Benson worked at the Alva Flour Mill and had a sister that Kenneth was dating back then.

There was this dinner at the Rose Hill School that Kenneth and Benson were at when the shooting occured. Kenneth Root was arrested by Sheriff Ken Greer and charges were filed against Root by County Attorney Bill Gruber. The presiding judge was J. J. Gaiser and the defense attorney was C. H. Mauntel.

We are told that after the trial Kenneth went free. We are trying to find out what happened to Kenneth Root. If you have any information on this 1941 shooting, please drop NW Okie an EMAIL: mcwagner.lk@gmail.com Thanks!

Trinity Site & Trinitites of New Mexcio...

"On the morning of July 16, 1945 at 5:29 a.m., the desolate peace of a remote New Mexican valley was incinerated by the fire of a powerful man-made star. ..... No more wars of spears and bludgeons, no quaint 'lines of fir' by brightly dressed troops. War was now a strange, new beast, identified by the fascinating, violet-hued mushroom cloud after a collection of the U.S. Army's most brilliant physicists detonated the first atomic bomb. A visit to this historic site in the middle of a beautiful but austere landscape, prophetically named Journey of Death (Jornada del Muerto) by 17th-century Spanish settlers, combines the severe gravity of history with one of the West's loneliest and most historically significant outposts. The Trinity Site lies isolated in the northern section of White Sands Missile Range about an hour and a half due south of Albuquerque......" -- Cyberwest Magazine - New Mexico's Trinity Site: A Pocketful of Trinitite

Roswell UFO Crash - 1947...

".....Mac Brazel reported finding portions of a crashed UFO on his ranch. The sheriff of Chaves County passed this information along to officials at Roswell Army Air Field (RAAF) and an investigation was begun by Maj. Jesse Marcel, an intelligence officer. A press release was issued by RAAF about the flying saucer on July 8, 1947. The following day, the official story was changed by Army Air Force officials. (Both stories were reported in front page articles in the Roswell Daily Record.) This Roswell Daily Record web site lets you explore the various reports on what has been termed the "Roswell Incident," a subject that has generated many news reports, books and motion pictures..... Huskey at Northwestern (1939-1943)...

"Do you know or can you direct me to someone who might know if Northwestern Oklahoma State University at Alva has records of students from 1939 to 1943?  Trying to find a given name for a HUSKEY who attended there and got his Medic training there prior to WWII.  Any help at all would be appreciated.  I tried writing to the Registry Office at NWOSU, also.  I'm still hoping to get an answer from them, but It's been several weeks so I've about given up.  I could be wrong about the years, it was second-hand information to me.  I suppose it's possible that this fellow could have been at NWOSU up until 1942 or so.  If you have any ideas, please let me know.  Do you know if county schools kept any kind of graduation records in those years?  Alva is the town there at NWOSU, but I don't know if this guy attended that particular school.  Thanks much!" --  Wayne Huskey, Scottsville, VA - Email: hotwirehuskey@earthlink.net View/Write Comments (count 0)   |   Receive updates (0 subscribers)  |   Unsubscribe

Would like to know more about the biological mother, too. His name at birth was baby boy gates. I am not trying to interfere in anyones lives. Actually I'm the wife that is searching. My husband has been told for years that his biological dad got killed, in a car accident in 1965. Baby Boy Gates was born August 19, 1965, in Alva (Oklahoma) hospital. Blue Canyon, Nowata County, Oklahoma...

"Wado! You might try contacting the Nowata Historical Museum and ask for the old map that Herb Crouch and someone else did up about the area. Herb also wrote a small book of area people and events that corresponds with the map. Bob Rogers, outlaw, was homesteaded near there. Did he bury a treasure of robbed goods? I don't know if the map and book will tell you what you are seeking, but worth the havi... both of them. My Grandfather lived in Childers, near Twin Bridges. His mother, arah 'Granni' Martin, had a home there. If you have any info on that homestead, or pictures, I'd be interested. Have been trying to locate a picture. All of the Martin's lived in the Childers and now, ghost town, Ruby area. There is a Martin cemetery there, also. Hope this info helps." -- Pat - Email: gnikenots@yahoo.com View/Write Comments (count 0)   |   Receive updates (0 subscribers)  |   Unsubscribe

How Many Cemeteries - Freedom OK...

"Do any of you know how many cemeteries are located in Freedom, OK? An ancestor was buried in Old Freedom and I am not sure if that is merely the name of the town or if it is a cemetery name. Unknowingly Make An Impact On Another Persons Life...

"I just received this e-mail message this morning and thought I should share it with you. You may remember that at one time you and I discussed the subject of how we might unknowingly make an impact on another persons life. I hope all is well with you and your family and have a wonderful new year." --Ernest Martin

----- Here's the Message -----
Fathers Legacy website and paintings... "Thank you.  It has been a wonderful journey through your life and paintings.  I started on the internet to find a picture of a dirt road to go in my church bulletin with the writing "Dirt Roads" and with God's help, I found your site. Your work is wonderful and your writing made me homesick for my home town of Tarboro, North Carolina and I wanted to see my Grandmother even though she has passed away (15 yrs ago). I wish you had sketches or paintings to go with your writings. I can picture my growing up places with your words and I just want to go home! Your painting of the "Farm" is the type of place that I would love for my 7-year-old grandson to grow up. Thank you for touching my heart and soul today. Your work has meant a lot to me."
