After reading this story of the past, I was wondering what happened to the James' small child that got dropped off at the German farmer's home? Did Katie (DeWitt) James' Grandfather, Henry DeWitt, raise the child? Did Katie's husband whom she was going to divorce raise the chil [more]...

Enjoyed your pictures of the Lookout Cemetery so much. I have a sister buried there and like you I don't know where her grave is she must of had a metal marker and it got destoyed. I never could find out what happened to the cemetery records.

Early Snows In SW Colorado

Colorado Snow, 10/11/2008 - Before & After

This week the Santa Ana winds raged through California and created disasterous fires around Santa Barbara.

Meanwhile... SW Colorado (Bayfield, Durango & San Juan Mountain areas) were getting their first taste of snow, November 10, 2008. Monday morning, 11/10/208, we wokeup to that white wet snow falling North of Bayfield, Colorado that started sometime late Sunday evening.

By mid-morning we had about 5-1/4 inches of snow piled outside in our front & backyard -- it continued snowing the rest of the day.

It was a gentle, consistent snow. No drifts. The sun came out Tuesday with warming temperatures as the show slowly began to melt away. By the end of the week, only small patches of snow were left in the front and backyards. The bucks and deer gradually came back and began grazing on the green tuffs of grass in the yard.

Paris, Hurt & Louthan Info

Since my ParisTimes Genealogy database had very few LOUTHAN family data, I did some genealogy research on how my PARIS, HURT and LOUTHAN's were possibly related.

Through my Ancestry.com account I found lots of LOUTHAN connections and information on Gilbert Shirley LOUTHAN.

It looks like John Cope LOUTHAN was the grandfather of Gilbert Shirley LOUTHAN through John's 2nd wife Mary Ann HALE.

Florence T. (LOUTHAN) PARIS' father was Robert Hiram & Belle Claircy (COKERHAM) LOUTHAN.

My Grandmother, Mary Barbara (HURT) PARIS had a sister Emma Jennie HURT who married Samuel Oscar LOUTHAN.

Mary Barbara (HURT) PARIS had a son, Leslie Martin PARIS that married Florence T. Louthan.

Anyway... Samuel Oscar and Robert Hiram Louthan were brothers through John Cope LOUTHAN's 1st wife, Jane HADDOW.

Samuel Oscar Louthan

As for Samuel Oscar Louthan, he was born 20 Aug. 1872, in Missouri and died 21 Dec. 1951, in Chester, Major, OK, and married Emma Jennie Hurt, born 28 Nov. 1890, Omaha, NE and died Sep. 1974, Chester, OK. Emma Hurt was a daughter of Joseph & Anna (Wallman) Hurt.

Anna Wallman, born 1869 in Czecoslovakia, died 1906 in Orion, Major County, OK.

Joseph and Anna (Wallman) Hurt had the following children: Emma Jennie (b. 28 Nov. 1890, NE), Edward "Joe" (b. 1884, NE), Carrie (b. 9 Apr. 1886, NE), Christine Tillie (b. 1889, NE), Mary Barbara (b. 6 Sep. 1893, NE), Eddie J. (b. 1894, NE), Anna (b. 1895, NE), Lucille Marie (b. 28 May 1899, Orion, OK)

Samuel Oscar & Emma Jennie (Hurt) Louthan had the following children: Annabelle Maude, Howard Raymond, Arthur, Lester Leroy, Floy Edwin, Lucille.

So... How do your PARIS, HURT & LOUTHAN surnames match up with mine?

9/11/1908 - Railroaders Win Real Live Game

I was researching The Daily Oklahoman archives this week when I ran across these headlines, dated Sep. 11, 1908, page 10, which read: "Railroaders Win Real Live Game" with sub-headline: "McGill Pitches Good Ball While McClintock Is Knocked Out."

The article began with, "Beat the tom-toms, clash the cymbals, and kick the cow. Enid won the last game by a score of 5 to 4. Persons inclined to be mean might say Enid didn't win it, that the Mets lost it."

From that opening statement it sounds as though Enid's baseball team around 1908 with Parson Frantz as coach did not get much respect from the locals.

It goes on to say, "Why not let Parson Frantz float out of town in the mellow glow of pious achievement and with the halo of victory resting on his classic brow. Anyone who isn't willing to do this much isn't fired with the noble sentiment of poetic justice and, what's more, is no sport."

It was reported that the game was as lively and interesting as a mouse at a meeting of the ladies' aid society. The Mets got an unearned score in the first when Wilhite made an excusable error on Jones' throw to catch Goes, and McCormick made his customary two-base hit. In the third they polled two more on throw hits, a base on balls and Brooks' error in left.

They were saying at that stage of the game nobody would have bet a cent to a dollar on Enid. In the fourth there was a big disturbance, though.

Runkle, first to face McCormick in the fourth inning, hit the first ball pitched for a clean single over second. Did McCormick think he was going to pitch a no-hitter?

Are there any early baseball enthusiasts out there that remember as far back as 9/11/1908 when the Enid Railroaders won a victory against the Mets? OR... Did you hear the stories as the Mets Loss that game?

We would love to hear from you! By the way, that McGill pitching good ball for the Enid Railroaders was this NW Okie's Grandpa, Bill "Will" McGill. -- NW Okie, Bayfield, Colorado

Oklahoma Gas Prices Below $2

11/15/2008 -- "On Wednesday the gasoline price dropped to $1.83.9 per gallon. Yesterday (Friday) it dropped again, to $1.79.9!

Earlier in the week we got more rain. My rain gauges showed a total of 85/100 of an inch (and it has turned cooler). The winds carried in more pollens and several of us are experiencing allergy problems. I now have a deep bass voice (and 'lost' it for awhile yesterday). Fortunately there's only one high note for me in tomorrow's choir special and I can sing a different note that won't detract from the over-all performance." -- Roy K.

Roy also says, "This is a GREAT IDEA!! When doing your Christmas cards this year, take one card and send it to this address. If we pass this on and everyone sends one card, think of how many cards these wonderful special people who have sacrificed so much would get.
