The Little Pug Horse...
by - Sadie Sadie
Ever heard of a Pug horse? Me neither! BUT... that doesn't mean there "ain't" any. We have one around this place here in southwest Colorado. Her name is Sadie! That's Me ... Sadie Sadie!
I want you to met my dining buddy, a year-old dun quarterhorse, named Maggie. Yep! around this place we have dining buddies. Trigger dines with Quoti -- I dine with Maggie, Quoti, and Trigger. Trigger also dines with Maggie. About the only two that don't share the same food trough is Quoti and Maggie. Quoti, the three year-old mare pins her ears back when Maggie gets to close to her food.
I follow NW Okie out to the pasture every morning at feeding time. I don't chase the horses or bite their ankles or tails. All I do is mosy, mingle and meander with my buddies in the big pasture. They just sniff my backside and NW Okie is nearby with her "carrot stick" to protect my little backside ... just in case of
trampling hoofs.
I have heard it told that, "Sadie will eat anything with anybody at anytime, anywhere, anyhow ... very democratic." Yep! That's me! Democrat...ic Pug horse! There should be (and probably are) more Democrats out there! Check out our Webshots albums Summer 2006 - Horses for more pictures of this Pug horse's grazing buddies.

OR... check out the OkieLegacy - Old Opera Mystery (1910). The September '06 edition of The Prairie Connection may be continuing the Old Opera House Mystery and getting into parts of the 1911 Trial in Woodward County. That is of course, IF the Prairie Connection readers want to hear more!
There is a request that we would like to ask of everyone out there. We are looking for any information on Claud McCrory, ex-county attorney of Woods County (1910). Where did McCrory vanish after resigning as Woods County's county attorney? Why couldn't the Law Enforcement League find McCrory? Who was helping him hide from subpeonas?
If you have any information about Claud McCrory, please send your information to LK McGill Wagner - paristimes@hughes.net. Thanks in advance!

Updates From Colorado...
We had just about given up hope of ever having any red tomatoes... until a couple of days ago. That's when we spotted the color change on a few of the green tomatoes.
WOW! We suppose the whining about only green tomatoes must have worked. NOW... there are more tomatoes making the color change to red. The sixty days of ripening tomatoes must be approaching here in southwest Colorado. We have included a shot of our "almost red" tomatoes here and on our Webshot albums - Summer 2006 - Tomatoes. Next year we are going to start earlier (inside) and try the "Early Girl" tomatoes. These "Better Boys" seem to take forever up here in Southwest Colorado.
This week we have experienced temperatures rising to the mid-90's here in southwest Colorado. We heard from several of you that Oklahoma has been feeling the Dog Days of Summer with highs reaching to 110F. That's without factoring in the humidity, though. In that case, make it 120F. Sounds like you finally got a break Friday with a 10-degree drop in temperatures when the northern cool front came through.
Friday afternoon did bring a bit of a cool down here in the valley of southwest Colorado in the early evening around 6:00 p.m. when thundershowers poured through the valley and dropped a half inch of rain in an hours time. We also lost our electricity until about 9:45 p.m.
The Pugs and NW Okie just lit their oil-type lamp and candles and sat in the recliner -- listening, watching the hummingbirds feeding in between rain showers. It was so... quiet, calm listening to the patter of rain drops and thunder in the distance while watching the hummingbirds feed! You could almost hear a pin
drop!
We have been doing some re-installing of our OkieLegacy Blog. It was down for awhile, but is up and running now.
As to our Colorado gas prices here in southwest Colorado, they are hanging around the same at $3.129 at the local Conoco in Bayfield, Colorado.

POW Camps...
"I lived in one as a young child near Ft. Reno. It was being used by the employees of the U.S.
Bureau of Prisons who worked at the F.C.I. there at El Reno. The POW camp is actually closer to El Reno than Ft. Reno. It was a great experience and many happy memories." -- Carol Savage savagec@charter.net

WARRICK/WARWICK - New Jersey...
"I am trying to identify the parents of James Warrick who was born in New Jersey. James's wife name was Mary Bennet?. James was born around 1795 and died in 1882. 1880 census shows James and Mary living with youngest son Henry, in Raritan Township, (Monmouth County) N.J. James and Henry were Basket weavers.
The name spelling (for this particular line) changed sometime between 1850 and 1860 from Warrick to Warwick.
James and Mary's children are: Moses b. 1836, Elisha b. 1836 (my ggg grandfather), Harriet b. 1837, Martin b. 1837, Charles b. 1838, Mary J. b1841, and Henry b. 1844. I believe James may be an descendent of Matthew Warrick (1683-1729), a Quaker who came from Yorkshire, England. Matthew married Frances Horseman in 1712 and settled in Burlington, NJ around 1704. Matthew's children are: Isaac, Jacob, John, Samuel, and Abraham. Any info would be greatly appreciated." -- Email: warwick@ncfreedom.net

11:00 pm Sleeping on the bed! My favorite thing!
Excerpts from a Cat's Daily Diary:
Day 683 of my captivity: My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets. Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength. The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape.. In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the floor.
Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates what I am capable of. However, they merely made condescending comments about what a "good little hunter" I am. The audacity! There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to the power of "allergies." I must learn what this means, and how to use it to my advantage.
Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try this again tomorrow -- but at the top of the stairs.
I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches. The dog receives special
privileges. He is regularly released --and seems to be more than willing to return. He is obviously retarded! The bird has got to be an informant. I observe him communicate with the guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. The captives have arranged protective custody for him in an elevated cell, so he is safe....... for now....

Dogs & Horsehit...
"I am surprised your little pug is not rolling in and eating the horse shit. I have been around horses all my life and any of the dogs we have love to eat horse shit, roll in it and eat horse hooves after the horses are shod. My sister works for Triangle Sales in Shawnee (Triangle Sales -
Shawnee, OK) - still has a few barrel horses around. When you open this page, the woman in turquoise is a friend of my sister's and works with her also - didn't know 'til just now she paid such a high price for that horse/$22,000.00 - horse doesn't look that good to me?! My sister had a precious little Corgi/Sassy was her name & she was just that; although the summers here in Oklahoma were very hot for a heavy coasted dog like a Corgi. She lived a long & happy life in the country, but as herding dogs do - she like to herd the horses & one day about six months ago she was sauntering slowly across the pasture & one of the horses that she liked to herd/chase & pull it's tail, stomped her - with on fell swoop of the hoof, our little Sassy was no more (broke her back). They rushed her to the vet but there was nothing that could have been done. They now have another herding dog/Sheep dog by the name of Max - he is a black & white puppy. My nephew also raises & shows sheep.' -- Ms. Jan
