The first week of November has been showering us here in the SW Rockies with beautiful cool, Fall weather in the mid-50's during the day and anywhere from the low 30's to mid-20's at night. Just the thing to get you in the mood for the coming Holidays, Thanksgiving being only 19 days away. The Christmas Cactus is starting to bloom, also. This isn't our cactus, but was sent in by a friend.

As to the autumn leaves falling from the trees this time of year... Remember when you were of the younger age and would go out raking, making piles of those autumn leaves -- then either jumping into the middle of them or laying a blanket over the pile and making a leafy bed to take a nap amongst. Also, remember shuffling your feet through the fallen leaves that settled in the yard or curb-sides and kicking the leaves back up into the air? I still find myself shuffling the leaves up into the air... even though I have hit the autumn years of my life. What I don't do anymore is rake the leaves into piles and jump in the middle of them. BUT... I've had thoughts of doing it, though.

1946-47 Kelsey Airport Video...

Well! We managed to capture a few stills of our Dad (Gene McGill) from the old Kelsey Airport movie that we received from Kelsey's through Waynoka Historical Society. Last Week Corrections & Gas Prices...

Last week we made an error in reporting that Hwy 281 ran through Okarche, Oklahoma. That should have been Hwy 81. Not sure what I was thinking when I typed 281, except Hwy 281 runs north and south through Alva, Oklahoma in the NW corner of the state. Anyway, one of our readers kindly got us straightened out and the correction has been in in last week's newsletter. Thanks, James, for that correction!

As to Unleaded gas prices this week in SW Colorado... they have been hanging around $2.73 to $2.75. That's about a 10-cent drop from last week. We heard on the news this week that someplace in Indiana that unleaded was selling for under $2.00 ($1.96). Our reader in Perry, Oklahoma reports that gas prices are still hanging around $2.12 to $2.14. Has anyone out there seen it lower than any of these prices? We would love to hear from you. Magill's From Lisbon, New York...

"My Surnames: Magill, Stuart/Stewart, Boyd, Martin, Briggs, Barns, Gambier. My Magills came from Ireland in May 1844 and moved directly to New York Mills, NY., Oneida County. I feel that they came there because they had other family in the area. My James Magill was born in 1784 in Ireland or possibly Scotland and his wife Elizabeth Stewart/Stuart Magill was born in 1792. One of their sons, had the name Hugh Stewart Magill, so I have guessed that the name Hugh could come from either of the grandparents or possibly a brother. When did your Magill family come to NY and where in Ireland were they? My James Magill came from Dromore, Ireland, just south of Belfast. There were also Stewarts?Stuarts in the New York Area who were possibly family of Elizabeth Stuart Magill. Do you think these two familys could be related? Looking For England Family In Waynoka Area...

OKWOODS Message Board Post: "My Grandfather was Nem Wesley England, he was born on Nov. 19th, 1875 in Iowa. He visited with relatives in Waynoka when he was 14 or so. We are looking for family or info on his and his background. He worked with Cattle on drives from Texas to Kansas as a young man. He was also part native american and had relatives in the area. He married my grandmother in Harper KS abt. 1906 or 07. She had a brother named Claude Munger who lived with his wife Clara in Alva OK. Any information would be greatly appreciated. My grandmother Blanch V. Munger married my Grandfather Nahum Wesley England abt 1906-07 but I can't find out what the actual date was. It was told that they were married in Harper Kansas, Harper Co. or it might have been Waynoka OK. We are not sure... could someone help me with this? Old Guard Assembles -- The Goltry News newspaper, 1905... G. A. R. Boys and Citizens Gathered in Goltry Tuesday for Decoration Day Exercises. Another year has gone by since last the old soldiers of this community gathered here for the purpose of observing the day set apart to commemorate and keep alive the memory of the brave boys who gave their lives and their services that their country might remain united. The community and the veterans are fortunate in that since the meeting here a year ago none of the old soldiers have gone to answer the roll call on the other Shore, but all who attended the exercises here last year were here again Tuesday with the exception of a few who have moved away, and we trust that the Omnipotent eye will watch over them as carefully during the year to come before they again assemble for a like purpose. Led by the Jet band the old soldiers formed in line and marched to the cemetery where the graves of the few old soldiers resting there were decorated. After the basket dinner a short program was given at the lumberyard, after which Rev. Edwards, of Anthony, Kansas, delivered a patriotic and interesting address to the old soldiers and a large crowd. Music was furnished during the entire day by the Jet band and in the afternoon the Helena band accompanied their ball team over and rendered a few selections. The Jet boys had expected to receive their new uniforms on the morning train but for some reason they did not arrive. Following is, we believe, a complete list of the old soldiers who were present:

In the written A HISTORY OF ALFALFA COUNTY by David Washington Pierce, 1926, his history of Goltry says, "The town of Goltry, located 26 miles southeast of Cherokee on the Frisco Railroad, was platted in 1903 by the Goltry Brothers of Enid. The town was named in honor of these men." The reference given is "A. E. Gas Prices In Perry, OK...

"Tuesday our lowest, regular gas prices at the pumps here in Perry, OK. dropped to $2.08.9 (If I'm remembering correctly) and then Thursday it dropped again to $2.04.9 so I thought it might drop again this morning but was surprised to see that they went BACK UP to $2.14.9 (perhaps it was a mistake and I'll check again on the way home). They had been $2.12.9 Tuesday and then dropped again Thursday, but now they're back up.
