There was a water tower located I believe on the south side of the tracks and just a little west of the station. I do not remember when it was torn down, but I believe it may have been in the '70's.

Yeah. Guess who talked her into it. ;) None other than the next Bard of the Port City down here in Lousiana. Come and link to OkieLegacy at mySpace, send me a note about your favorite poems, and get a chance to read some of my work.

Duchess & Sadie's Domain

Bayfield, Colorado - Hope you all are keeping cool, staying out of the Oklahoma heat during the "Dog Days of Summer."

This week we are sharing a photo of a panting pug, Sadie, taken 24 July 2010, out at the Fairvalley pond, in Northwest Oklahoma. Ain't she sweet posing and panting in the Oklahoma Summer heat. Thank goodness we are back in cool Colorado.

As a matter of fact, do not forget to hop over to NW Okie's Facebook Photo Album with updates of NW Okie's Eagle Totem sculpturing. You will notice that NW Okie blocked in legs and claws on our soaring eagle. AND -- those black tiger streaks (spalding) we are told are the after effects of treating the mildew with a clorox solution.

Do not forget to check out the feature concerning Talkington's disc of PDF files with twenty-eight old Anadarko telephone books. If you are searching for ancestors that lived in the Anadarko, Oklahoma area from 1903 to 1960, you might find this a very helpful research item to add to your genealogy library.

NW Okie says it is my bedtime, so I am going to hand this over to her to finally get this published for another week. Good Night and Good Luck! View/Write Comments (count 0)   |   Receive updates (0 subscribers)  |   Unsubscribe

NW Okie's Ramblings

Bayfield, Colorado - We have continued our sculpturing on our Eagle Totem. We are now up to Day 16th sculpturing. Lately we have done some body shaping of the Eagle and shaped in the legs, claws of the Eagle so that our soaring eagle might be able to land and take a load off of its wings in flight.

As to Northwest Oklahoma Rodeos, when is/was the 74th Cimarron River Stampede Rodeo, sponsored by the Waynoka Chamber of Commerce, takes place at the Waynoka rodeo arena, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday with performances each night at 8 p.m.? Is it the weekend of around August 12-14th? Or was it this last weekend? Who is this years Waynoka's honored cowhand?

I know that the 73rd Annual Freedom Rodeo and Old Cowhand Reunion will run from Thursday through Saturday nights Aug. 19-21, 2010. Look for McGill Sisters full page ad in the rodeo program with a photo of an old one-room Liberty 35 School 1904-1905, with teacher, Constance Warwick. If you have any other information about this photo, we would love to hear from you.

We would love to share some of your rodeo photos in the OkieLegacy, since we will not be able to get back to northwest Oklahoma in time. Save us a Freedom Rodeo progman, too. Thanks! View/Write Comments (count 0)   |   Receive updates (0 subscribers)  |   Unsubscribe

28 Old Anadarko Telephone Books On Disc (PDF Format)

Anadarko, Oklahoma - Are you looking for ancestors that were in the Anadarko, Oklahoma area? If so, you might check into the CD discs in a PDF format that will enable you to both view and print any of the 1,139 pages. N. Dale Talkington (Email: anadarkoaggie@gmail.com) says, "Over the past several months Wahnne and Rosemarie Clark, and I have been collecting old Anadarko phone books from 1903 to 1960.

"They are now all scanned onto CD discs in a PDF format that will enable you to both view and print any of the 1,139 pages. You will even be able to copy and email pages to friends and relatives.

"The years included are 1903, 1908, 1910, 1927, 1929, 1932, 1935, 1936, 1938, 1939, 1940, 1941, 1942, 1943, 1944, 1945, 1946, 1947 1948, 1950, 1952, 1953, 1955, 1956, 1957, 1958, 1959, and 1960. "The many classified advertising pages are another source of rare and interesting information. Many business listings include the names of managers and owners. The 1958 directory includes listings from Binger and Fort Cobb, while the 1959 book only added Binger. In 1960 only Fort Cobb was included.

"To my knowledge a collection of this type has never been attempted before. The cost of a hard-bound printed copy of these 1,139 pages would range from $173 to $258. Your cost of the disc is only $9.87, which includes a sturdy jewel travel case, tax, handling, postage, and very little profit. Mail a check to N. Dale Talkington, 2814 N. Monroe St., Stillwater, OK 74075-2131. "Any profits from these sales will be converted into free copies of the disc for many area libraries and genealogy societies. If you have any questions, my (N. Dale Talkington) cell phone number is: (305) 343-4229. View/Write Comments (count 1)   |   Receive updates (0 subscribers)  |   Unsubscribe

Western League Association (1905 Oklahoma)

Oklahoma - 1905 League -- Teams in Joplin, Missouri, Leavenworth, Kansas, Sedalia, Missouri, Springfield, Missouri, and Topeka, Kansas joined from the Missouri Valley League. Teams from Guthrie, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma joined from the Southwestern League. A new team in Wichita, Kansas formed and joined the league.

1905 Team Name & Record:
Wichita Jobbers - 79-56
Oklahoma City Mets - 77-58
Leavenworth Oilers - 75-59
Sedalia Gold Bugs - 70-64
Guthrie Senators - 66-70
Joplin Miners - 65-73
Topeka White Sox - 54-80
Springfield Highlanders - 54-80

Craig (Email: "Craig Anderson" tca@ablonco.com) says, "My Uncle John tells me that he remembers hearing about Miller (his Grandfather) saying the Spencer team rode the train to Hobart to play a game. Miller had an offer to play in the Western League but he turned it down because he was starting his family.

"I found some information about a Western Association that had an Oklahoma City team in 1905, so this may be what he was talking about. His playing day were about 1900-1910. Apparently the fans were quite loyal to their team and fights happened. One of Millers brother was said to have bitten part of a fellows ear off in one of these fights." Inquiry: Nick (b. 1862) & Mary Eller, Alva, OK

Woods County, Oklahoma - clanknut (email: ) on Rootsweb message board states, concerning Nick (b. 1862) & Mary Eller, Alva, OK, wrote, "I have gathered quite a bit on this couple and children, yet I still have questions, specifically, Did Nick F. Eller (1862-1932) have 2 wives as it appears he does on census records from 1895 (KS) to 1920 (fed, OK)?

"Both wives would have been named Mary. The first wife appears to be the mother of his 4 older children. The second wife appears to be Mary E. L. Warwick, buried (with her married name, Eller) near her mother, Catherine Warwick, in the Alva Cemetery.

"Family stories indicate that the first Mary might have been Choctaw. Her daughter, Capatola, was described in a contemporary letter as half-Indian. According to census records, Mary 1 might have been born in 1860 or 1872.

Before 1900, Nick Eller appears to move frequently across the Kansas and Oklahoma border, but in 1900 appears to settle down in Alva, Woods County for the remainder of his days. His sons also lived there and much of the family history is centered around this area. I am hoping that someone in Woods county has heard or read of the Ellers (one son, Harrison, was quite infamous).

"I have been working on this single, small question for a long time and would warmly appreciate help. Thank you.

ALSO, I have a formal portrait of a young man (age 18-26?) dressed in a 1920s-style suit. He is a relative of mine, but I am not sure how to go about discovering his identity. My only clue is that the photograph is labeled Bradley's Studios, ALVA, OKLA. If anyone has a thought about how to go about this, Iwould greatly appreciate help. Thanks again."
