There are great views as You look to the northern, western mountain Enough of this beautiful Colorado wild life and scenery, though. Celebration of Thelma's Life... We heard sadly from the family of Thelma DeGeer Lippincott this week. There was a Celebration of Thelma's Life, in Benicia, California, Thursday, October 28, 2004, 2:00 p.m. You see Thelma Evelyn DeGeer Lippincott, born in Freedom, Oklahoma to Renfrew and Josie James DeGeer, died peacefully as she laid down early, in her sleep on Friday, October 22, 2004, at 7:25 p.m. at the Napa Nursing Center. Thelma had celebrated her 100th birthday only a few months ago, June 4, 1904, with family and friends. She left her family and friends with 100 years of memories and legacies of her life here on earth. Do you believe in ghosts and haunted mountains... there is a story in Scott Cummins book, Musings of the Pilgrim Bard, pg 253-302, called Reminescenses of the Early Days that I have been engrossed in on this Friday. That's why this newsletter is late getting written and sent to the presses. We truely think you will like this early day story of that is told around Flower Mountain near Medicine Lodge, Kansas back in 1849. My intention was to do this whole thing about ghost towns, spirits of Oklahoma, but I got side-tracked reading this Scott Cummins story. So... here it is transcribed for you all who do not have Cummins' Musing of the Plgrim Bard book. Enjoy and Happy Halloween! May the "Great Spirit" and "White Spirit of the Whirlwind" protect you from the ghost and goblins that come calling this weekend. Speaking of ghosts and ghost towns in Oklahoma... has anyone ever heard of "Nowhere, Oklahoma?" One of our readers sent me a photo of a group posing in front of what seems to be a water tower or whatever at Nowhere, Oklahoma. Is it for real? Where exactly is Nowhere anyway? Is this where most of Okies came from?

"Thelma Evelyn DeGeer Lippincott was born June 4, 1904 in Freedom, Oklahoma to Renfrew I. and Josie James DeGeer. On August 17, 1930 she married Roger Swaim Lippincott (d) in Alva , Oklahoma. They later moved to 31 Simple Way in Benicia , CA and then 210 Idora Ave. in Vallejo, CA. In 1948, she and her husband founded Lippincott Supply Co., in Vallejo, CA. The past few years she resided in Napa , CA at her grandson, John Kent's home and Napa Nursing Center. Loved ones helped her celebrate her 100th birthday, as she greeted them adorned in pink and pearls, last June at her grandson, John Kent's home. She died peacefully, as she laid down early, in her sleep on Friday, Oct. 22 at 7:25 p.m. at Napa Nursing Center.Grandma Lippincott was predeceased by her sisters, Audrey, Freda, Opal, Ivy, Eva, and her only brother, Roy DeGeer. Thelma is survived by her only daughter, Linda Lippincott Kent, of Oakley, CA, two Grandsons, Johnny and his wife Terry L. (Rond) Kent of Napa, CA, and Danny and his wife Danelle Kent of Oakley, CA, and his ex-wife, Terri (Cook) Fahey of Napa, CA, ten Great-Grandchildren, David Kent of Vallejo, CA, Tammy Kent Horvath and her husband Mark Horvath, Lindsay, Kate-lynn, Kelly, Bradley and Emily Kent all of Napa, CA, Vince Walker and Sabrina Kent of Oakley, CA, Brittany Evelyn Kent (deceased), and one Great-Great-Grand-daughter, Kelsey Evelyn Horvath of Napa, CA. Thelma is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends. She was a graduate of Alva High School and initiated into Tri Sigma Sorority in 1922. On July 26, 1929 she graduated from Northwestern State Teachers College, now known as Northwestern Oklahoma State University , in Alva Oklahoma. She taught st grade in Alva, Inid and Oilton, Oklahoma and Benicia, CA . Flower arranging was her passion and she was one of the founders of the Shibui Flower Arrangers Guild of Vallejo, CA. Thelma loved doing crafts and was always helping at Community Congregational United Church of Christ in Benicia, CA with their annual Holiday House Bazaar. Playing Bridge was another love until the age of 99. She played and belonged to several Bridge clubs in Vallejo and Napa. "If you look in the Musings of the Pilgrim Bard on pages 253-302, Scott Cummins wrote about Indians, ghosts and a haunted mountain. Also, the pictures you took of all the deer are wonderful! Thank you for sharing them." Reminescenses of the Early Days... "About nine miles west of the city of Medicine Lodge may be seen a high, peculiar looking hill or mountain that rises abruptly from the valley of a small creek hard by. It is almost round, and although not perpendicular, yet it is so steep that it is with difficulty that one can reach its lofty summit. Many of the early settlers can distinctly remember when the summit of this mount, perhaps an acre in extent, was densely fringed with stunted cedar trees, which caused it to present a weird, romantic picturesque appearance. Like many other mounds in Barber County , this mount ( Flower Pot Mountain ), has a legendary history. What I know concerning this particular mount I will relate. Until what I have to relate transpired I was an unbeliever in ghosts, nor did I believe that the departed spirits ever revisited the earth, yet on this occasion I both saw and heard, “What much has changed my skeptic creed.” But to my story...." - [Reminescenses of the Early Days...
