Remember 60 Years Ago...
Did your grandparents, parents, aunts and uncles ever talk much
about 7 December 1941? What they were doing? Where were they? How
did it affect their lives?
According to my Uncle
Bob's letters written home, Bob was on a train to San Francisco,
California and then off to Hawaii around the 19th December 1941.
I was only about 5 years old when Uncle Bob died February, 1954.
So I wasn't able to ask my Uncle those questions... What, Where
and How did the bombing of Pearl Harbor, 7 December 1941 affect
him. I can only assume through the letters and correspondents that
past between family and friends.
Why not write down in a journal your thoughts, etc... of how things
affected and changed your life and outlook over the past few months,
years... Do it for your grandkids, nieces, nephews and family to
leave a legacy and a part of yourself.
Someone told me, "Sharing stories could help heal both old
hurts and new. Taking time this weekend to listen to the stories
of elderly friends or relatives who have lived through similarly
trying times can help inform, inspire, nurture, or heal both parties.
Stories from the past not only help put events into perspective,
but they also help communicate meaning and reinforce feelings of
connectedness between generations."
We should remember... "Yesterday, December 7, 1941--a
date which will live in infamy--the United States of America was
suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the
Empire of Japan." (U.S. Capitol, Washington, D.C., December
8, 1941)
How a single moment can change the course of history forever. Vital,
frightening reminders of Pearl Harbor (7 December 1941), 11 September
2001 are only a few. For more info on Pearl Harbor checkout The

The Old Man of Freedom...
The Old Man of Freedom sits atop a rocky hill south of and watches
over the Friendly town of Freedom, Oklahoma.
If you cross the Cimarron River heading south of Freedom and look
off towards the east, you might catch a glimpse of this Old Wise
Man who watches over the unique Village of Freedom, in Northwest
Oklahoma.
Rod
Murrow found this discover one morning while he was out walking.
I first heard of this Old Man of Freedom when I was reading the
weekly news in The Freedom Call a few months back. I emailed Rod
to see if I could get a copy of the photo to share with y'all.
Thanks to Rod here is the photo and what he discovered one Summer
morning... "The rock formation is on the south side of the
Cimarron River just east of the river bridge south of Freedom. It
is easiest to see clearly in the afternoon when the sun is shining
on the rock face (he "faces" north, overlooking Freedom,
but the rockface itself faces west). Many locals didn't even
know this old man was there. I found him earlier in the summer as
I was out doing a morning run one day, then returned later to snap
the photo."
Oakie's NW Corner...
Last week we were chilling ourselves to the bone. This week it
may have been chilly in the early mornings, but the most of the
days were Spring-like across Oklahoma.
Those Spring-like temps have seen christmas decorations springing
up around our NW Oklahoma neighborhoods. I've even gotten a little
into it. You can look up, down and around Alva and other towns in
NW Oklahoma to see the variety of decorations families come up with
to help them get into the Holiday spirit. I love driving around
at night to see all the glittery lights and displays this time of
year. AND... We all need some glimmer of hope, spirit now days,
don't we?
I have to apologize for this being so late... About the middle
of the week I physically came in contact with a swinging gate right
between the eyes. Yes! I slightly cracked my nose, but it is healing
nicely as I write this newsletter in the wee hours of the night,
looking through my raccoon-looking eyes.
The reason it's so late tonight is because of a AOL Christmas party
at the Myriad, OKC. I think I was the only one there dressed in
black, beaded dress and raccoon eyes (blackeyes).
I'm going to cut this short tonight and go recuperate over the
weekend. As to the Waynoka Calendar Winners... I will deliver your
calendars sometime next week. Thanks for emailing and entering my
drawing.

the best of yourself."
