This is going to be a short newsletter this Thanksgiving weekend,
because I've been playing hooky this week. You won't find any history
links or the mailbag section in this weeks newsletter. As I said,
"I'm playing hooky during this Thanksgiving weekend."
We just got back from watching a fabulous movie, "Baggar Vance."
Now I'm not one for watching sports or golf, but there is something
about this movie that reminded me of something my sister (Dorthy)
keeps telling me. She passes this down from our Auntie Jim (Zella)
on my mother's side of the family. It goes something like this, "Golf
is like a game of life!" Before... I never really understood what
either of them meant until this evening while we were watching the
movie "Baggar
Vance."
"Baggar
Vance" is a story about how Golf becomes the game of life
in Robert Redford's adaptation of Steven Pressfield's novel. It's
about a golfer who returns to the sport with some help from a mystical
caddy who guides him through more than just the perfect golf game.
It's like the character, Baggar Vance, keeps telling the golfer,
Junuh, "Inside each and every one of us is our one true authentic
swing. Something we was born with. Something that's ours and ours
alone. Something that can't be learned... something that's got to
be remembered."
We each are born with our own special authentic swing. We can never
loose it, but we can sometimes get lost in the forest or sandtraps
and not see the light or opening beyond... Until we come face to face
with the those things holding us back. Things might seem impossible
and beyond our reach sometimes, until we remember the determination
that drives us through this game of life. It's only a game... A game
to be played... NOT necessarily for the win!
Sometimes obstacles get us sidetracked... causing us strokes and
we tend to lose sight of the real victory or lessons to be learned.
It isn't that you win or loose,... It's how you play the game. It's
how you feel about yourself afterwards. If you all get a chance, check
out the movie, "Baggar Vance." It is worth your viewing... OR maybe
reading the novel by Steven Pressfield, "The
Legend of Bagger Vance: A Novel of Golf and the Game of Life"
is more to your liking.
Enjoy the rest of your Thanksgiving weekend. Here's to the Oklahoma
OSU & OU Bedlam football that takes place this weekend in Stillwater.
If you are up in NW Oklahoma, you might want to follow the NWOSU Rangers
as they continue for the NAIA championships at home on the Ranger
football field in Alva, Oklahoma.
See Y'all next weekend!
