Colorado Cool Colors - Fall 2000

Well!  We arrived back in Oklahoma dragging our lasso of cool weather two days behind our return to the Heartlands of Oklahoma.  I tried to lasso some rain and moisture, but there was none to spare.  If anyone out there is near any rain showers, please lasso some and drag our way.

I've got some great Colorado shots to share with you.  As always, I didn't get every great shot taken, but I did get some colorful Fall pics of SW Colorado.  I guess I will just have to head back that way to get the shots I missed.

We traveled up towards Dolores to Telluride and back around towards Ouray, Silverton and Durango.  There are some great sights of the beautiful golden colors of Aspens reflecting in the lakes in that area.

Telluride had a "Blues & Brews Festival" going on there and the streets of Telluride were lined with parked cars on both sides of the streets.  Music could be heard drifting through the streets from the town park of this small ski resort & historical mining community.  I also spotted a stone ruin on the west end of town (or was it the east).  My directions in the mountains get turned around easy up there.  Now I understand how my Pennsylvania sister feels when I try to explain Oklahoma directions to her and use north, south, east and west instead of left and right.

The Colorado Lake around Yellow Mountain and Red Mountain proofed to be a beautiful shot for this photographer.

Yellow Mountain, ColoradoHere's a shot of the Colorado Yellow Mountain that was in the background of the above photo.
Telluride Stone ruinsThe Telluride stone ruins on the west side of town caught my eye and I've been trying to figure out just what they are the ruins of.  Is it an old railway depot?  Does anyone know out there?
As we began our way out of the SW Colorado mountains and towards home along highway 160, we spotted this herd of antelopes along the north side of hwy. 160 between Trinidad and Springfield, Colorado.

For those of you who like animals scenes from the mountains, I've included a squirrel and chipmunk that I took up around Box Canyon Falls.

I did come back with something other than photos from Box Canyon Falls near Ouray, Colorado.  It all began when I climbed up and down the steps leading to the thundering waterfall of Box Canyon Falls.  I was attempting to step across rocks along the waters  edge and placed my right foot upon a not so sturdy rock.  I lost my balance and scrapped my right knee as I plunged forward... catching myself with my right knee and hands.  All I wanted to do was get another great shot of the thundering falls of Box Canyon Falls.  What this reporter won't do for a great shot, huh?

My cousin in Minnesota sent me a weather report a couple of days ago.  She was having to cover her flowers because of a frost warning for that area.  We've had some cool weather since we've been back in Oklahoma, but no frost yet.

We've also been struck with some careless grass fires that have been keeping our fire fighters coming and going.  I suppose you've heard on CNN where Oklahoma is experiencing some grassland fires from around Edmond, Guthrie, Bartlesville, along the eastern part of the state and down towards Turner Falls State Park.

How dry is it?  It's so dry that... the fire fighters meet themselves coming and going. That's how dry it is in our part of the world.

The farmers/ranchers have their fields plowed and waiting for the rain to fertilize and plant their winter crops before the winter sets in.  Are we destined to enjoy the Fall and Winter without a drop of rain?  There is always something happening in this part of the world to keep us jumping and thinking.

"Linda, here's a quote I'm sending you from Dorothee Deluzy.  I thought the quote was very thought-provoking.  Why is it that we immediately believe the worst things we hear about something or someone; but, when it comes to word about something good, we have to check it thoroughly before we'll accept it?"

o OAKIE'S QUOTES/POEMS

"We believe at once in evil, we only believe in good upon reflection.  Is this not sad?" - Madame Dorothee Deluzy, French actress (1747-1830)

Hope to see Y'all Next weekend!
