The Okie Legacy

Before The Spring - Snow
written 14 March 1999, Sunday

Spring is just around the corner. Trees have been blooming because of the milder winter we have been having here in Oklahoma.

I love to watch the snow falling to earth as it dances it way down towards the ground in a rhythmic, sometimes slow and sometimes speeded up motion. The snow flakes started out small and gradually have gotten bigger, but it still 'ain't sticking' on Saturday. I awoke Sunday morning to find that one to three inches had fallen overnight. The flakes just seemed to swirl downward dancing to their own sweet melodic , classical, melodies to be quickly melted into the concrete jungles.

Sometimes the snow would fall slowly then a gust of wind would pick it up and propell it sideways and downward in a circular motion. If you look intensely, you can almost see the mixture of the slow and the fast snow falling at the same time.

This is when my favorite spot in the house is near a big picture window near the fireplace and I'm settled in an overstuffed chair with a book; a collection of old movies to watch on TV; my favorite soothing, music on the Radio or CD; and snoozin' as I watch, listen and take in the beauty of the snow as it garnishes the trees, yards, and houses.

There are probably those who don't like the cold of the snow and have to drive in it. If I can't be there in body, I will be there in soul to warm your spirits so you can make it through the cold.

As for Me . . . I will stay indoors and curl up in front of my fireplace and picture window in an overstuffed chair with my 13 year-old dachshund (Rose) and I watch old movies and occassionally glance outside to watch the children sledding and playing in the snow.
