The Okie Legacy

The OHTH Begins

by LK Wagner - 4 April 1999, Sunday

This used to be "Oakie's Journal" -- Thro' gracefully, growing -- learning -- discovering who I am. My friend's that I have met out there in the universe have each given me insight into who I am.

As I travel on this journey of discovery of myself -- I will add new pages and stories to my "Oakie's Heart to Heart".

If you would like to be the other soul or heart that I link with and communicate my feelings, hopes and dreams -- I would love to hear from you. I Love my ICQ and you can connect with me at 1142261. I love getting Email, and I would love to hear what you have to say. That is how we grow inside -- by respecting others and being true to ourselves.

If only one person finds something of value (or beauty) in these written words, then that is fine for now.  It is in the "Eye of the Beholder" to find what they seek for themselves when they are ready to find it.  No one but you can find that for which you seek.

Beauty and wealth is but a feeling inside of a person.  To see the beauty of things around you is all the riches that a person really needs.  Ask yourself this question, "What you don't have . . . Do you really need?"

It takes the Emerald within us all to see the wealth of riches and beauty in the hardships that surround and make up their daily lives.  We all have dreams and hopes to fulfill.  Some may see their dreams more clearly than others.

Sometimes we get carried away with the material things that only bring a quick fix (or gratitude) for the first few short minutes after we acquire it -- BUT it is the everlasting knowledge and that journey to learning and discoverying ourselves that counts.

The value of our family legacies - teachings - friends - experiences that we gather throughout our life should be transcribed and handed down to each generation that follows us. If you have to carry a little notebook or tape recorder in your purse to jot down little sayings -- important milestones in yur life -- Make it a habit and do it.

Then maybe 50-100 years from now your daughter, granddaughter, son, grandson, etc... can find a piece of your soul to read and cherish and see what Life was like -- what inspired you.

We all seek that inner-self within us that only we can accomplishment ourselves with the encouragement and support from our family and friends. The Emerald is hidden within us all. We only need to find it; nourish it; and see the beauty as it grows to become a Flower!

It would be a lonely life to be locked away and sheltered from ever experiencing or feeling the true friendships, knowledge and experiences that you acquire throughout your life. They are like the spices that make a recipe exciting to the taste buds. They are the real riches that last and give our Life its "Real Meaning and Purpose"!  It is those spices that help towards our self-discovery.

Over a century ago our fore-fathers made the journey to this New World from across the seas - oceans to escape persecution from many countries - people - things. They had a dream with a spark of adventure in their spirit to seek that which would enrich their life and leave a legacy for their children.

As I look back amongst my ancestors, I see that they  traveled from all parts of the World. Some traveled from Holland to the shores of New Amsterdam - Long Island - other shores along the northeast coast of New England.

Others traveled by ship from Austria/Hungary (Bohemia) to the New World and made their trek to the west by way of the northern route by covered wagon to Nebraska and then south to Indian Territory (what we call Oklahoma).

Still other Ancestors came over from Germany to escape the persecution of the French in the mid-eighteenth century (about 1741).

They All searched, seeked, and toiled until they found that emerald within themselves. They all had the courage, strength and adventuresome spirit that it took to survive whatever challenges that everyday life handed them. They found the beauty -- the peace in it all.

I'm not saying that times were NOT tough.  It was not an easy life back then.  There were many hardships to conquer, but yet they survived to pass down a fantastic legacy to us all.

They left us with precious lessons to learn that we should always remember so we won't be condemned to repeat them.  They raised large families to help them forge this New World and make a New Life.  With the new growth of each generation grew a stronger and better New World (what we now call America).

It takes a special person to travel beyond their Hopes and Dreams to seek - plant - nourish that seed within us all. It is that journal of Journeys for self-discovery and enlightenment that keeps the spirit of their adventures and experiences alive and growing within us all to hand down to the next generation.

That legacy has been handed down through many generations. We have but to look within ourselves to find that Emerald Jewel that is hidden and masked deep within us all. Once we find it, it will enlighten our lives and reward us with a peace of mind and give us the knowledge of accomplishment that we seek.

It is important that you remember the hardships, adventures and the experiences that our ancestors left behind as our legacy. They are valuable tools of knowledge that keep us from being condemned to repeat the mistakes of our ancestors.

Who was it that said, "To NOT remember our history is to be condemned to repeat it."

Let us remember! Let us learn from the hardships that our parents before fought so hard to overcome so they could leave us a legend and a legacy to pass on to their own children someday. Share your courage and strength with others not so fortunate and who need help finding their way.
