Hello, Cousins!

Joseph and Anna Hurt were my mother's grandparents and my G-Grandparents.  Their daughter Mary Barbara Hurt is my grandmother. John and Mary were my mother's G-Grandparents and my GG-grandparents.

I've driven by the Hurt Cemetery, but haven't been able to catch the Martin's at home and didn't want to walk all over the place with them not there. Maybe one of these days I can get back there and see the old house that Joseph and Anna built and the cemetery. The last time I was at the Orion Cemetery I got a sheet of who was buried there and am still transcribing it to put on the website. There were allot of HURTs and other relatives on my mother's side of the family buried there.

I reading other peoples histories and my nother's I realize what hard times they all went through back then.  Mom never really talked about her Hurt relatives that much.   Now I'm on my own trying to put bits and pieces together and finally seeing where my mother came from and how they survived. No one else in my family seems interested in the history and genealogy of our family.  They are all busy with their own lives, so I'm kind of the lone historian right now.

It really is fascinating. I've got about eight other surnames working at the same time and sometimes my mind gets really boggled and I end up taking a break from it all for awhile. But it has sparked an interest in history that I never really cared for when I was in school. Maybe if I had been researching ancestors at the time, it would have stuck better (that's history, of course). *S*  Back in my school days those that taught history were the coaches.  BOY!  Was that a dragging, boring class back then.  I hope they have improved on it by now! *S* :o)
