Charles Robert McGill's Obit

This is Gr-Uncle Charley's Obit as it appeared in the local paper July, 1971...

Death - July 23, 1971... Charles Robert McGill -- Charles Robert McGill, 86, died in the Oklahoma Veterans Center in Ardmore Friday.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 25 at the Capron United Methodist church with Rev. Edd Painter officiating. Inerment was in the Capron Cemetery under the direction of the Wharton Funeral Cahpel.

McGill was born Sept. 5, 1884 at McPherson, Kan. He moved to Alva in 1895 and attended Northwestern State Normal before teaching at Manila rural school and at Gate.

He later moved to Capron in 1909 to operate a drug store and garage which he owned before entering the service in 1917.

He married Elizabeth Kidd on June 9, 1911. She preceded him in death Nov. 8, 1952.

He was left paralyzed after a car accident in 1931 and he has since lived in the Oklahoma Veterans Center in Ardmore.

Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Spencer (Lulu) Erskine of Alva; four nephews and ive nieces.

Casket bearers were John Andersn, Jack Erskine, Joe D. Heaton, Richard Heaton, Sheldon Sherman.
