Harlow's Hands Attempted To Bulldoze Umpire Quigg Who Threw Two Men Out of Game and Fined Five. Senators Rub It InHouston Lost First Game of this Series to Austin
by 6 to 2 -- Clayton, $20. These were the fines assessed against the Houston players yesterday afternoon by Umpire Quigg and Dr. Robbie, president of the South Texas league. This is the price Houston paid for a little tampering with the gray-headed veteran umpire and baseball player Frank Quigg, the man who knows his business and who has demonstrated heretofore that he is the man for the place. Never has he quite so forcibly asserted his rights, proved so entirely satisfactory as he did to the thousand spectators at the game between Houston and the Senators yesterday afternoon, in which the Senators took the hide off the Hands. This scrapping hoodooed both teams though the Senators simply put it on the visitors to the tune of 6 to 2. It was an easy victory. The home team outplayed the visitors at almost every stage of the game. McGill pitched for the home team and threw curves around the visitors' necks, which they struck at, and man after man fanned. Blakeney was batted at will and even with the errors which the Senators made, the visitors could not score. Following is Official Score:
Runs & Hits --Houston -- Austin -- Summary --Innings Pitched - by Blakeney, 8; by McGill, 9 The team left last night over the Central for Lake Charles. One double header will be played with the Creoles. McGill Pitched a great game. he enjoys the distinction of breaking the winning streak for the Hands. He did it by straight hard pitching. It was not the same Houston yesterday. It is the first time that team has so conducted itself. It has been a winning team heretofore, however. Would the players on that team exhibit the same professional spirit if they were losing? It seems to hurt them in everything to go up against clean ball players after all, and that is what so surprised the fans on the very last game in this city. Thery were excited.
