Austin, 14; lake Charles, 1. Austin, 16 hits; lake Charles, 2 hits. No game here today.

The new formation proved a perfect defensive bulwark and a formidable batting aggregation yesterday, and as a result after nine innings of fast baseball the Senators walked off the field with another victory to Austin's credit, a victory so complete, so one-sided that there was not even the slightest protest. Fourteen to one tells the tale.

It was the result of that change in the lineup which proved so effective the day before. The new formation proved even a greater surprise yesterday. It was a game of brilliant, real high grade work on the part of the Senators in the field and a perfect swatting match when at bat. Lake Charles' men played a fairly good game, but the Senators were too much for them. This game showed without a doubt the strength of the teams in the South Texas League. Those who saw the game yesterday were unanimous that Austin has the fastest infield and decidedly the heaviest batting team in the league. An all star team like that is bound to win out in the long run, and the prediction is now being made that Austin will catch and leave Houston within not so many days off. It is understood that the team will be strenghtened in one or two places, and when that is done all will have been done to make it a exceptionally fine team and a winning one.

The Creoles were outclassed. McGill pitched for Austin and did the best work he has ever done for the Senators. Gordon was behind the bat to hold him, and was in his old form. Short was at short and Bradley at third, with Carter in left field. With this lineup the Senators set to work.

But one man out of the first eighteen who walked to the bat reached first base. In other words, every man but one died at the home plate, and the man who made the first base did it on a three-bagger, which later netted the only run of the game for Lake Charles.

Only twenty-nine men faced McGill throughout the game. Four reached first base, two on hits and the other two by fielders' choice. In the seventh inning Logan for the Creoles got a hit, but was put out at second when Horn landed on the ball. Horn was then put out at first when Hardy got to first on a fielder's choice, narrowly missing a double play. Vinson flew out to left field to Carter, who made a brilliant spectacular catch which put the side out.

In the eighth and ninth innings only six men faced McGill. It was a great victory for McGill and was won so completely there was no room left for doubt. The credit for such an overwhelming victory is due McGill more than any other man perhaps, and after him Short and Bradley in the infield. If McGill did not fan them they placed the ball in the vicinity of Bradley or Short, which always resulted in the runner going out at first.

Austin made four runs in the first inning. Short got his base on an error by McKay. Hutchcroft attempted to sacrifice and on an error of Logan at second both Hutchcroft and Short made safe. Gardner then, attempted another sacrifice, and Starr fumbled the ball, leaving all three men safe on bases. Gill flew out to center field and Bradley got a two-bagger, which scored all three on bases. Bradley was then brought in on a hit by Jehl. The side was finally put out by Jehl being thrown out a second and Carter going out at first. This gave the Senators four runs and the visitors none. In the second inning the big third baseman, Hardy, made a three-bagger, the only one of the game for the Creoles. Latham flew out on a high drive to right field, and Hardy came home for Lake Charles' only run.

Austin fared bad in the second and went out rapidly. Short got two successive put outs in the third which won him thundering applause. They were really beautiful and spectacular plays. A hit by Gill followed by a hit by Bradley and Jehl each in the third netted one more run. Again the visitors died quick in the fourth and Austin did little better. The fifth was even less spectacular. Both teams were doing fast and furious ball. Then came the sixth and the visitors again went out, one, two, three. In this inning Austin got eight hits and eight runs. Starr, who pitched for Beaumont, blew up and flew to pieces. The Senators swatted him hard to all corners of the fields. The rapid and successive hits had a demoralizing effect on the entire team. Ever man who went to bat except one got a hit in this inning. Short got two. Five men batted twice in the sixth. There seemed to be no end to the swatting of the Creoles. Everybody hit and the Creoles played as loose as amateurs. The Senators had them going and it was only after many minutes that the side was out.

In the seventh Austin made one more run. Gill reached first on error of Starr, stole second and came home when Bradley made another two-bagger. The remainder of the game occupied only a few minutes.

Hard hitting and fine fielding on the part of the Senators won the game easily.

First Base on Errors -- Short, Gordon, Gill, Carter, Gardner

Two hits and one run was the best the Creoles could do. Cooper at third base for the Creoles plays a star game. None of them are two hot for him. The Senators now have a hitting team. it is perhaps the best hitting team in the league. This is McCall's day to pitch at San Antonio. One more good outfielder would make the Austin team a dandy. McGill pitched the best game he has pitched this year.
