Gene's Letters...A
Political Legacy |
Gene's Legacy![]() 26 Sep, 1938, Wednesday, Alva, OK, 5:30PM Dear Bud, Horses are tied in score - 1 up and 1 down - Looks like the black stud will lose out. Boy! One is well - About that wheat allotment of 771 acres I'm farming. I can put in 360 acres of wheat, 242 acres of barley, rye or oats, and the rest in spring crops. And on the 360 acres of wheat ground they'll pay me about $2.90 or $3.00 per acre - Will be about $900.00 they will give me. don't know how this war business will effect the cattle and wheat market, can only hope. Say, if you know Zero's address you better write him. My letter didn't do any good. I've been drilling wheat for the last week - Kenneth is mowing feed - We have 30 acres mowed now and 45 to go - guess we'll have a months job putting it up - and stacking it. My registered cows are having their calves now - 3 nice bull calves and one damn jersey bull calf. I guesss Joe Edwards didn't watch his fence very good. Two more to come yet, though. Jack Sievers died last Sunday afternoon. He has been fixing an old airplane and started the motor, the propellor came off cutting a very severe gash in his upper thigh and abdomen - He bled to death - (mostly Internal Hemmorage). Left wife and one kid. Bill Gruber was elected and also will become a father this month. What was that about three years before anything would happen in Europe between Hitler and Prague an the Cheks? Looks like it's here right now to me - Hope we can keep our noses clean so we can grow, propogate and prosper - My propogating has been nearly too damn good. Mother nature must not have known that I was just kidding and almost made an expectant proud father out of me, but - the Ergo Api_ Capsules still work for yours truly - and I'm off its shelf again. Drop me a line. Gene P.S. The old man is as bad as ever. © 1999-2008 by WWWPubCo & OkieLegacy.org All Rights Reserved.
