Gene's Legacy

Gene McGill - Bearded Wonder

geneff.jpg (14262 bytes) Trick of the Trade ----- No one could ever forget a crop of whiskers like this and that is the very practical reason Gene McGill, (deceased June, 1986) Alva, Oklahoma wore them.

You should have seen his "Devil" eyebrows during his "1960 Democrat Politics"  and his later years.  Let's just say Lee Marvin looked alot like my Dad!

Anyway, back to the beard . . . He would start to grow his crop about the time it came wheat harvesting time for other farmers.  As he would go northward with three combine outfits his beard would grow more luxurious.

The above article went on to say, "He definitely did not bring them down to the Flying Farmers' convention to get his picture taken -- but he refused to cut them off despite the kidding."

In his younger wheat harvesting days Gene would use his airplane to spot wheat fields which need cutting even far off the beaten roads followed by other outfits -- and the man with the whiskers got the job.
