Short Springs was named for George Short, first postmaster. In 1897 the name was changed to Ashley. The Short Springs Cemetery was incorporated around 1901. Just east of the cemetery is what looks like an old school building turned in to the "Short Springs Cemetery Association" building. It sets on the northside of US Hwy 64, NE corner where a rural, country road intersects US Hwy 64.
