This 200+ page scrapbook of NW Oklahoma marriages from the
early 1930's thru 1945 was kept by a lady named, Dolly Carlson, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Carlson. She is deceased now.
Most of the marriage write-ups only had the year penciled
above each of them. Some had no date. I am assuming that most of them were
taken from the local Alva papers, but there are some from Wichita papers
and Springfield, Colorado.

was given Saturday night at the home of Mrs. Art Rolfe, northeast of the
city, announcing the marriage of her daughter, Melba, to Mr. Homer L. Burns,
of Enid. The marriage took place at Newton, Kansas, on December 27, 1932.

- ca. 1932... Miss Ruth Wheelock and Max Brand marriage solemnized Thursday
evening at Roswell, New Mexico, with Rev. LeRoy Thompson, former pastor
of the First Presbyterian church of this city, reading the marriage vows.
They will be attended by Mr. and Mrs. Rolf McPherson of Los Angeles, Calif.
They expect to return to Alva Sunday, and will make their home at 810 Church
street. Miss Wheelock is the daughter of Mrs. Carrie Wheelock of this city.

of thirty friends and relatives Miss La Verne Geeslin became the bride of
Mr. Peter Hesser at 4:00 p.m. Friday, May 24, in the home of her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Geeslin, of Stillwater, who celebrated their silver wedding
anniversary that day. The vows were read by the Rev. Isaac Hesser of the
Christian church in Hydro (Oklahoma). Rev. Hesser is the father of the groom.

prominence in society circles here and at Enid is the announcement by Mrs.

Murray - Miss Murray Honored At Dessert-Bridge
- 1939 -- A shower honoring Miss Velma Jo Murray, whose marriage will
be an outstanding event of the near future, was held Friday evening when
Mrs. Ernest Hansen entertained with a dessert-bridge in the home of Mrs.
Robert Bright, 717 Fourth Street.
Lyon-Cox - 1939 - Wedding Announced
Here -- A quiet marriage ceremony was performed for Miss Gertrude Cox and
Harley Lyon Wednesday evening at the Christian parsonage. The Rev. G. R.Vaughan
read the sacred vows. The couple was attended by Mr. and Mrs. Wayde Lyon.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Cox, and is a senior in Alva
High School. Mr. Lyon is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Willard Lyon, west of Alva.
Brown-Rackley - March 5, 1939
- Wedding Announced -- Wedding of much interest to the younger set of Alva
was solemnized at 12:30 p.m., Sunday, March 5th when Glen Rackley and Dorothy
Brown were united in happy wedlock by Rev. John W. Carrier, pastor of the
Methodist Episcopal Church, Coldwater, Kans. Mrs. Rackley is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. E. Brown of Coldwater, Kans. She graduated from the
Coldwater high school in 1937 and attended N.S.T.C. Mr. Rackley is the son
of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Rackley, 1002 W. Barnes, Alva, Okla. He is employed
by the Railways Ice Co.

23, 1939 - Vows Are Read -- On Sunday, April 23, Miss Edna Johnson became
the bride of Alpha Whiteneck, in an impressive ceremony in the home of her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Johnson. The vows were read at 4 o'clock by
the Rev. Johnson of Waynoka.
